Leaf / leafmotor / leafbike high efficiency 1500w motor

Gotcha...sounds like you know a lot more about what is going on than I initially thought :), and I agree the 11.5-14.2 is a huge variaion. Right or wrong, I use the Kv values in this article for planning purposes: https://www.electricbike.com/leafbike-1500w-hubmotor-the-mid-sized-hot-rod/

Leaf / leafmotor / leafbike high efficiency 1500w motor

Don't get too caught up in getting the exact Kv value because it can vary a little bit depending on the conditions while you are testing....i.e. Controller Type, Voltage you feed it, Any load whatsoever, etc. If you buy a 4T, you may have to run Statorade and Heat Sinks to keep it cool enough...

    LightningRods mid drive kit

Thanks Guys Scianiac...I think you hit the nail on the head. LR is for someone that is a little more serious about performance and the CYC is for someone that needs super simple plug and play plus wants to pedal. I went BBSHD many years ago and it works for me. I think my next bike will...

    LightningRods mid drive kit

How do the Lightning Rod kits compare to the new CYC X1 Pro Gen 4? I am not super familiar with either, just looking for the basic advantages and disadvantages for both. Thanks

Leaf / leafmotor / leafbike high efficiency 1500w motor

The difference in the battery amperage required to get equivalent torque from both a 4T and a 5T Leaf motor...well it is ZERO so you are supplying the same power to both motors to get the same torque. For the run I did with the Grin Tech Motor Simulator (Leaf motor, 52v battery, 40A...

Leaf / leafmotor / leafbike high efficiency 1500w motor

As far as bicycle chains and mid drives go....my BBSHD puts out over 300 NM at the output shaft and I have never had any problems with my bicycle chain handling the torque.

Leaf / leafmotor / leafbike high efficiency 1500w motor

Phase amps are not continuous like battery amps so 100 phase amps does not require the same size wiring size as 100A of battery current. The difference in the phase amps required for a faster wound motor to produce the same torque as a slower wound motor is not that much different but they are...

Leaf / leafmotor / leafbike high efficiency 1500w motor

I completely agree...heat no matter the source is your enemy and combining things that produce heat only makes the situation worse.

Leaf / leafmotor / leafbike high efficiency 1500w motor

Just a couple notes.... A. You can run a BBSHD on 72v with an aftermarket controller...I did it. B. Torque output for different motor windings...for the same BATTERY amperage, all windings of a given motor design (Leaf motor for example) will produce the same torque. The difference is in the...

BBSHD and Sturmey Archer S2K 2 Speed Kick Shift Disc Brake Rear Hub

Back pedaling to make the shift is exactly the problem :). I have used my BBSHD with a locked rear hub i.e. no freewheel capability in the rear wheel/hub. Only way I know of to make the "kick shift" work would be to lock/eliminate my BBSHD internal freewheel and just run the freewheel in the...

Leaf / leafmotor / leafbike high efficiency 1500w motor

Nep...did you have to change the connector or the actual plug on your 18 FET Infineon clone from MAC so it would connect correctly to your Leaf motor? The 18 FET Infineon clone I have came with a different connector that my Leaf motor came with. What about the VESC, do the connectors that...

I buy all of my batteries from EM3ev.com. They have proven to be very reliable and safe and their customer support is top notch.

Leaf / leafmotor / leafbike high efficiency 1500w motor

Nep...I believe you can still order/buy the Infineon Clone Controllers directly from MAC. MAC does have a minimum order that might throw a monkey wrench in anyone's plans to buy just one.

Leaf / leafmotor / leafbike high efficiency 1500w motor

I wouldn't recommend anything faster than the 4T Leaf. Use the Grin Tech Motor Simulator to check your temperatures and use a Crystalyte H35xx motor in place of the Leaf to do it. Just adjust the Kv until you have the same top speeds for the H35 and the Leaf. Of course there are variables...

Leaf / leafmotor / leafbike high efficiency 1500w motor

RH212 vs Leaf....if you power both with 60A (Battery amperage) and 52v, a controller capable of 200 phase amps, and set the Kvs so the top speed is equal on flat ground, the RH will accelerate slightly quicker than the Leaf but it will also run hotter as you increase the amperage so the Leaf...

Leaf / leafmotor / leafbike high efficiency 1500w motor

I checked them, what do you not agree with? The RH212 with a 27mm stator came directly off of the Grin Tech web site and I provided the link where I got it.

Leaf / leafmotor / leafbike high efficiency 1500w motor

It is worse than that....the RH212 has a 27mm stator: RH212 Standard Wind If everything else was the same, you'd only have 27/35 as much power capability just due to the narrower stator. I can't recommend any motor that has a stator narrower than 35mm unless somebody has a unique...

EM3ev vs Luna Batteries and Kits

For a high amperage battery, I like the cells below: Samsung 30Q cells are 15A continuous and 3,000mAh. Samsung 25R cells are 20A continuous and 2,500mAh capacity. LG HG2 cells are 20A continuous and 3,000mAh...they would be my choice for the best 18650 high amperage pack. EM3ev is...

EM3ev vs Luna Batteries and Kits

Just FYI, the smart BMS that EM3ev uses will balance the cell groups at any voltage above 3.92v per cell...that works out to about 54.9v for a 14s battery and 3.92v per cell is supposed to be the voltage that is "neutral" as far as the cathode and anode degrading. I charge my battery to 54.9v...

Leaf / leafmotor / leafbike high efficiency 1500w motor

I'll help you make your decision real easy. Do you ride off road any, if yes go with the BBBSHD. Leaf is a great motor but the weight distribution, handling, motor over heating, ability to change the driving gear ratios...all better with the BBSHD. If you want to ride on pavement and/or good...

A critique of mid-drive riding recommendations (and hub drive criticisms)

I run a 22T single speed White Industries freewheel in the rear and a 28T Lekkie chain ring. With a 52v battery and 27.5" wheels, my top speed is ~18 mph. I don't pedal much. I would go smaller than 42T...something like a 34T chainring...that would give you a good low gear (34/28) when...
