Leaf / leafmotor / leafbike high efficiency 1500w motor

What voltage is your battery and what battery amperage and phase amperage is the max your controller is set to allow? I am going to have to play with controllers once I get everything working properly. Thanks

Leaf / leafmotor / leafbike high efficiency 1500w motor

16" tires were once the "go to" diameter for street motorcycles...now 17" is the most popular for street bikes. 18 AND 21 are the most popular for off road/dual sports, and 19" are the preferred diameter for Flat Track racing as well as some custom builds just to get the look you want and some...

Leaf / leafmotor / leafbike high efficiency 1500w motor

Exactly. IMO the smaller diameter tire is providing the increased acceleration more than the weight loss (lighter tire) but both are contributing. I have a 24", 26", 27.5", and a 29" rims with a MAC hub laced to them so I can just swap the motor by unbolting the nine small screws that hold...

Leaf / leafmotor / leafbike high efficiency 1500w motor

Thanks...a 19" motorcycle tire is about the same diameter as a 24" bicycle tire. The Shinko SR241x2.75 has an OD=639mm and the 24x2.6" Schwalbe Pick-Up has an OD=637mm. I would probably go with a 17" motorcycle tire if I go to a motorcycle tire but just because the available selection of tires...

Leaf / leafmotor / leafbike high efficiency 1500w motor

Ended up going with a Schwalbe Pick-Up 24x2.6" rear tire. Everything is on the way now except for the spokes...those are going to take a few minutes to figure out :). Can anyone tell me the spoke hole circle diameter on the Leaf 1,500w motor? Only dimension I am lacking to be able to...

24" rims...I searched far and wide trying to find a rim that had an internal width greater than 32mm and less than 40mm but I never found anything. I am satisfied with the SE Bikes J32S rim (32mm internal width) I ordered but it is the only 24" rim I found that was wider than 30mm internal...

Leaf / leafmotor / leafbike high efficiency 1500w motor

I have a couple of bikes with MAC motors. The MAC produces more torque per battery amp than any ebike motor currently in the drop down menu of the Grin Tech Motor Simulator and that includes the Leaf, Cromotor/QS205, MXUS, Crystalyte Crown, etc. I run a peak of 60A battery current to my MAC...

First Build, know what I want, not how to get there.

I would not recommend a mid drive motor for commuting and I wouldn't recommend a Direct Drive or Geared Hub for off road. Off road, go with a Bafang BBSHD. Pavement under 30 mph, go with a MAC/GMAC. Pavement over 30 mph, go with a Direct Drive hug motor. Faster than ~30 mph on a bicycle is...

I want to build an E-cruiser Newbie

Learn to use the Grin Tech Motor Simulator and then run your set up through it to ensure you have the speed and thrust you want as well as the steady state temperature of the motor...anything above 130C is too hot and 130C is pushing it. Motor Simulator: Motor Simulator - Tools I'd put in...

I want to build an E-cruiser Newbie

Steel frame...excellent idea. I like the Schwinn and Mongoose Mt bikes with a steel frame because they are relatively inexpensive and the frames are very strong. The Schwinn/Mongoose Aluminum framed Mt Bikes are not a bad choice but given the choice, I'd go with steel. How are you going to...

Leaf / leafmotor / leafbike high efficiency 1500w motor

Thanks for the rim comments. I did go back and forth with Chalo via a message and he recommended one of the "Ryde Andra 40" and the "SE Bikes J32S"...both available from J&B. I agree with Amberwolf....Chalo's recommendation carries a good bit of weight, I have never known him to steer anyone...

    E-S Stealth Electric Bike Owners

Anybody have a recommendation for a good quality/strong 24" rim? I just ordered a Crystalyte H55 motor and want to lace it in a 24" bicycle rim but I don't have a "Stealth" bike....yet :). Thanks

Leaf / leafmotor / leafbike high efficiency 1500w motor

DECISIONS ALREADY MADE: I decided to go with Statorade and Hub Sinks from Grin Tech (ordered and on the way). I also decided I am going to run a Schwalbe Pick-Up tire in size 24x2.6" tire when I get my motor laced in a 24" rim...it is currently in a 26" rim and I plan to use the Maxxis Hookworm...

I like the hose clamp idea and you could put more than one together if you can't find one that is long enough plus they are easily removed...maybe two hose clamps, one on each edge. McMaster Carr has a good selection of hose clamps and zip ties...this link is to their zip ties: McMaster-Carr...

Leaf / leafmotor / leafbike high efficiency 1500w motor

One option...you could cut down the fins on the Heat Sinks. Keep in mind the amount of heat transfer is proportional to the fin area so the sinks that CowardlyDuck used won't help as much as a set of cut down Heat Sinks that Grin sells. But I totally understand wanting to get the "look" you...

Leaf / leafmotor / leafbike high efficiency 1500w motor

It does look good :). Justin recommended I use the no load amperage and add Statorade until I get a slight increase in no load amperage to tell when I have enough Statorade...I just ordered mine and haven't even opened my motor yet to drill a fill port. The "How Much to Use?" section might...

    Statorade maintenance, time vs miles

Any suggestions on the volume of Statorade I should use? My Leaf DD Motor will be set up to run 45 mph/73 kph/600 rpm and the faster the motor turns the more you need to increase the volume of Statorade in the motor. The speed/rpm is above the highest I saw on Justin's charts. I believe the...

I would be interested to hear about the Hub Sinks installation as well. Just ordered Statorade and Hub Sinks from Grin...decided to forego the Ultra Low Viscosity ATF that is now available since leakage through the wires would still occur and I am hesitant to drill my side covers and run...

Leaf / leafmotor / leafbike high efficiency 1500w motor

Thanks for the pics. I am still torn whether to use Statorade, Drill my side covers, or Both. I am waiting on some parts and I'll decide before the new parts arrive.

    Statorade maintenance, time vs miles

I am really torn whether to use Statorade or one of the full synthetic ultra low viscosity ATFs in my 4T Leaf 1,500w motor. With my MAC motor, I have tried low viscosity ATF and a distilled water/Motul MoCool mixture...both worked great but the ATF leaked via capillary action through the wiring...

My comment on the number of ebikes in China was not meant to be directed towards anyone in particular, just for those that weren't aware...based on the info you post, IMO you are very aware :). Thanks for the links and the video...even though I am an old fart, I still enjoy learning about things.

Leaf / leafmotor / leafbike high efficiency 1500w motor

Thanks...I agree that Statorade should stay in place. I did read where Justin had it leak out of the side cover on a motor he had in his wind tunnel when initially testing but it was before he started selling Statorade and the formulation could have changed. This is the thread where he showed...
