High power RC motor and drive unit production

Super Model's Bathroom! I'm simultaneously turned on and grossed out :p (Must avert my eyes to the aluminum shavings on the floor.)

    Electric Messerschmitt project

Very cool. Is there any room in front of the driver? I have very little experience with Messerschmidts but have built a few trikes with 2 front wheels. And what makes them handle well is weight between the 2 front wheels. Eliminating that rear triangle with some updated (maybe monoshock...

LiPoly powered 18HP Twin Motor Brushless MONSTER build!

Luke: My buddy used to build custom hubs (X-large diameter) for his tandems and the spokes would have 3-4 cross and lashed to each other at one crossover using stout wire. They were VERY strong. I am sure anything can be broken but I think these would be strong enough for most stunts. How...

High power RC motor and drive unit production

Matt: I would like a single stage, I believe. No anodizing, standard gears are fine. I just have to determine what motor I want and dimensions of the overall system. I'd like to fit it in a cavity at the front of the suspended rear triangle (tight) and use the existing chain. Does anyone have...

Spun front axle and flew over the bars @ 25mph

EBikes breeds complacency. Very good point. Yeah, some can ride 25mph on their regular bike but the vast majority are doing 15mph or less. And a lot of the coming wave of ebikers will be making the conversion because they can't keep up even those low speeds. Maybe its evolution, (nothing...

High power RC motor and drive unit production

Aluminum is most likely the perfect material for this purpose. Its used for auto timing belt pulleys and have very few failures. And really under prolonged use seems to harden, kind of an unintended annealing process. On "Live Steam" Railroad, (A mini rideable gauge for giant children), the...

High power RC motor and drive unit production

Matt: I was looking specifically for a Mountain Cycle myself, first a San Andreas then a 9.5 . A friend of mine used to build them and I was very impressed but had difficulty locating the right used one. So I opted for an Intense M1 from EBay. Never having a DH bike before I was thoroughly...

High power RC motor and drive unit production

That is an extremely elegant design. From the beginning I wanted to go this route. Then I get tired of waiting and think I'll just go with a hotrod hub motor. Then you flash the goods and I think, "What am I crazy!" This is the real deal, low weight - high power. Really impressive. Rob

Spun front axle and flew over the bars @ 25mph

I don't know if I'll be doing front hub motors any time soon but if I was I think I would use: Forks with no "Dropouts" (slots to drop in and out) but just a hole in which the axle must be drawn through. I don't know if this would work on all motors but when possible, increases the forks surface...

Spun front axle and flew over the bars @ 25mph

Two things: * This is one of the original design considerations for recumbents. Flying over the handlebars is a common characteristic in serious bike accidents. If there is a similar fork failure on a recumbent, you pretty much end up on your ass and have your hands free to deflect or go feet...

    The push for 70 mph.

You maybe able to extrapolate from the Electrathon results. I think their 1hr. record is about 53 miles. These would be the closest to a streamlined electric bike. In fact it used to be legal to have a pedal assist but I think that is over with. Rob

    The push for 70 mph.

Rick: That is too funny. I too produced a bicycle fairing for the market in 82'. I sold about 50 of them until my mfg ran into a bad batch of Lexan and gave up. It was a free form blown Lexan that resembled a 1/2 sphere. On a conventional 10 spd it was quite effective. I ended up modifying the...

Rick, The fairing on that gravity bike is really beautiful. Is that a one off or modified from an existing? Rob

Tesla Roadster Suffers Devastating 100 MPH Crash!!!

TD, do you really think Tesla's goal is to inspire other car companies? If it is, it certainly could've been done cheaper and easier. One prototype and a bunch of grants. I think, in part at least, it was the CEO mentality. They hangout with very wealthy folks, all driving impressive machines...

    The push for 70 mph.

The original streamlined bike road racers had one common complaint, "aerodynamic improvements are very hard on the brakes". A very telling statement and probably part of the reason for stringent rules at least historically. I use to be the VP for the IHPVA (human power) and it was constantly a...

Tesla Roadster Suffers Devastating 100 MPH Crash!!!

As wonderful a car as the Tesla is, or could be, I think a much better use of the resources would've been to put the Horlacher into production. This would be a huge leap in the right direction.

Tesla Roadster Suffers Devastating 100 MPH Crash!!!

Interesting thread. The problems of GM and the auto industry predate the nightmares of deregulation. THe Snell Report spelled out pretty clearly how GM, Standard Oil, Firestone and a few other corporate conspirators set up hundreds of shell corporations and bought up all the independent train...

PROJECT MAYHEM -> Urban Assault Build Thread

Method Man, your bike ROCKS. The video really brought it all home for me. On-road, off-road, in between road, skate park, stair cases. The only thing missing is indoor use. But like a good old dog, when you bring him indoors he goes and lays down in the corner. Anyway, I've been trying to go the...

    Extreme efficiency?

I contacted Michael Lewis regarding the motor in his vehicle that set the hour record, its a 12 HP Lemco: "Rob: We use the LEM-200...way too much for a bike, but the smaller LEM-130 might be applicable, (like $1000.!!!) http://www.lemcoltd.com/. I've always thought wheelmotors were...

High power RC motor and drive unit production

How about twin RC Motors? It seems others are using dual motors for power in other configurations with benefits to cooling, etc. With the minimal weight of the RC motor it seems there would be a small penalty to pay. Cheers, Rob

PROJECT MAYHEM -> Urban Assault Build Thread

I just placed my XC 26" wheel in the rear triangle to see if it would fit and it did. But that 26" wheel is about 1/2 the weight of the 24" DH setup ! My scale is crap but it seems about 3lbs lighter. Although, I don't think this wheel would've held so well on the stairs. Also I don't know what...

PROJECT MAYHEM -> Urban Assault Build Thread

I just picked up an old Intense M1 that I will be modifying soon. It has a 24" rear wheel, any suggestions as to what tire to use for urban riding? The hookworm looks attractive but I believe its like 100G. I'm not sure as to how it will be modified but I do like the RC motors, maybe even two...
