LiPO PSA - How Not to Bun Your House Down

Thanks for all the great replies. Hobby LiPO can be great stuff, but it's not worth losing your house or even lives over, which is a real risk if you don't treat them with the respect and care they require. I did not. Batteries have come a LONG way in recent years and the power density is...

LiPO PSA - How Not to Bun Your House Down

Morning all (or whatever it is where you are), I had a good scare last night that provided a stark reminder of why we treat LiPO (and all batteries really, but particularly LiPO) with the respect and care we do. Most who read here regularly are generally well aware of the dangers and how to...

Watt/Ammeter With peak amps and watts for 72v system

Cycle analyst is definitely on my wish list but I don't think Santa is going to hook me up so that's out of the budget range at the moment. Thanks for the thorough response though man.

Watt/Ammeter With peak amps and watts for 72v system

Hey guys, So I recently changed my system from 52v to 72v and I'm having a heck of a time replacing my old wattmeter, a basic bitch, blue 150a turnigy that worked awesome, but sadly is only good up to 60v. Searching for a replacement I was only able to find units with rather large external...

    RC LiPO imbalanced discharge question

So after further testing and another ride I believe one of my 5s packs has been damaged, possibly a damaged cell, possibly multiple cells. One pair of 5s that are paralleled, with one 5s draining fast and appearing to take more of the load, and one 5s draining slow and appearing to take minimal...

Running higher voltage and relation to power, amps, resistance, heat...

Thanks for the responses man, helped me process my thinking and head back to the simulator. I think I'm definitely going to give 72v a shot. I run LiPO with no permanent wiring harness so it's all easily configurable for different voltages and capacities. Cheers!

Running higher voltage and relation to power, amps, resistance, heat...

This is basically what I'm trying to accomplish. I currently run 52v @ 80a for 4200w peaks, but I'm also ruining ferrofluid and hubsinks, and my cheap Chinese controller (yuyangking) has an 80a batt limit which I'm bumping up against. Even though efficiency drops off sharply over 4000w and most...

Running higher voltage and relation to power, amps, resistance, heat...

Hi, So I've been running my leafbike 1500w at 52v and 80a batt for peaks of 4200w, but I'm wondering if going to 72v would be better? If I run higher voltage I also need to run lower amps to keep the wattage within reasonable bounds correct? This being the case I'm then wondering if that would...

    RC LiPO imbalanced discharge question

I wish I had paid closer attention, but yes I believe so. I believe it was the 5s pack testing at @ 3.2v/cell parallel with the 5s pack that tested at 4.1v/cell. If so, that would indeed suggest to me that I had an improperly seated connection or something similar. Thanks.

    RC LiPO imbalanced discharge question

No parralelling between any 4s and 5s, only same voltage, same capacity paralleled. It's just a series connection, 2 x 5s for 36v, plus 1 x 4s for 52v. All cells are same voltage when connected in series and that's all that should matter for series connections.

    RC LiPO imbalanced discharge question

    I don't know why that autocorrected to a from s. I have 6 5000mAh Turnigy 20c LiPO packs, 4 x 5s and 2 x 4s, each pair of 5s is paralleled as well as the pair of 4s first, for 1 x 4s 10Ah and 2 x 5s 10Ah, which are then wired in series for 52v 10Ah. All uses 10ga wire and xt90 plugs. Balance...

    RC LiPO imbalanced discharge question

Nope, all packs bought as part of the same purchase, same brand, capacity, etc. They probably have eqivalent of about 5 full cycles on them over the course of maybe 15-20 partial cycles. Never been discharged below 3.5v/cell (until that one 5s pack today), and no apparent damage or puffing. I...

    RC LiPO imbalanced discharge question

Hey all, So I just got back from a ride where my LVC kicked in only about halfway through my trip and I had to pedal all the way home. This seemed weird, but I was also doing some controller tuning and therefore lots of stop, WOT, stop, readjust, WOT, etc before even getting to the trail. And...

Leaf / leafmotor / leafbike high efficiency 1500w motor

Hey fellow leafheads, While I've done my own on road testing to tune my controller batt and phase amps for best performance without unreasonable temperature climbs (running FF with hubsinks), I've recently been playing around with the ebikes.ca sim and have a question. The highest I can get...

Reading a 100k thermistor with incompatible controller

Okay thanks, I may end up having to go this route. Though I also may just end up waiting until I replace controller eventually and get a CA3 and replace the stock thermistor. Would be nice if it wasn't so involved but oh well.

Reading a 100k thermistor with incompatible controller

Hey all, So, I routinely push the limits of my leafbike 1500w with FF, running a YKZ7280-JA bluetooth controller, 80a batt, 230a phase (usually tuned down a bit to more like 60a batt, 180a phase, but sometimes not). While I try to be careful, and frequently test motor temperature by hand on the...

    YuYangKing controller not working

Hey man, Thanks a ton for your responses and attempt to help, much appreciated! I actually solved the problem, it was simply a calibration issue, which I caught by switching up pack voltage, which changed the top speed, which told me it wasn't an artificial speed limit. After calibration it tops...

    Yuyang king 40amp controller

Solved. This was a calibration issue. When I increased pack voltage the top speed increased from 25mph to 29mph, which suggests no artificial speed limit. Turns out it was simply a calibration issue, it wasn't actually topping out at that speed it was just uncalibrated for wheel size. Just a...

    YuYangKing controller not working

Nope doesnt get warm as far as I can tell, but I havent even put it under load yet because I've been trying to solve this issue, so I wouldn't expect it to get warm from the short, no load tests I've done. The motor spins smoothly and quietly, and quickly accelerates up to 25 mph, but as soon as...

    Yuyang king 40amp controller

I too am topping out at exactly 40kph/25mph, which is obviously an artificial limitation, but I can't figure it out for the life of me. I have the ykz7280ja-b model, 40a rated, 80a max, 230a phase. There are no speed limiting wires, and I've messed with every app setting available with no...

    YuYangKing controller not working

Hey all, Posting to this thread instead of new one for other yuyangking owners. I got mine all hooked up, at first it was noisy and slow, so I swapped the green and blue hall and phase wires and now it APPEARS to operate normally, but tops put at exactly 40 mph, which is ot only well below...

Where do I start my build? Qs205? Vector frame? Any advice would be appreciated

I'm certainly not the best person to answer your question but after two builds I can tell what I would do differently next time. Most important is just knowing what you want out of the build and what riding conditions you will be using it in. Then let that answer determine all your next...

    Bluetooth controller

http://www.yuyangking.com/en/products/33.htm I'm not sure if that is your exact model or not, that's for the one I have, but it sounds like you may have the same one. And if not you should be able to find yours there. Or are you looking for programming guidance?

    Temporary replacement controller

Ended up going with the YYK, but am a bit disappointed there is no PAS, or at least the model I bought doesn't appear to be wired for it. Would probably prefer a display as well but I can live with just the app. It will do the job for now and at a reasonable price. Thanks guys.
