Kepler Friction drive comes of age.

Thanks for the info. I have two mid drives, two hub drives and I would like to build my own friction drive. Chinese factory kit would be my last choice. Still it's an option.

Kepler Friction drive comes of age.

Kepler did a fantastic job with his friction drive, but it looks like he found something more interesting or rewarding to do. Buying his drive is no longer an option. I sent you a PM.

Kepler Friction drive comes of age.

I didn't see yes from you, so I will look into programming Raspberry Pi or Arduino. I have some experience with that. No problem.

Kepler Friction drive comes of age.

No it wouldn't, but you go ahead.

Kepler Friction drive comes of age.

I'm confident that I can come up with a mount for my trike. I would most likely incorporate a motor locking system to reduce the motor spinning to minimum. All my riding will be in dry weather anyways. I have a mid drive for everything else. I use Schwalbe Kojak tires on my trike. With tape...

Kepler Friction drive comes of age.

I built a mid drive and now I'm thinking that it would be fun to have a low power friction drive on my high performance trike. I have no clue how to program a Raspberry Pi, but I think that I could build even better friction drive system. Would you be interested in working on this project? I...

    AVIAN featherweight mid drive

Sorry for the late reply. I was not on Endless Sphere for a long time. I didn't take the battery with me. I designed and built the case, so I can buy cells and put them in, in Japan. It worked as planed. Now I'm into trikes.

Dave's 80:1 RC mid drive kit build log

I doubt that CYC transmission will be able to survive loads Astro can generate. Also, I think that RPM will be too high.

If it's steel you could build up material back and make a surface much more resistant to wear with nitriding. In case of aluminum hard anodizing would do the trick.

    CYC PHOTON

In harmonic drive the flex spline has to be very thin to work properly and because of that can't take heavy loads. It's obvious form just looking at it. Here you can see high power cycloidal drive. I'm talking shitload of torque. :oop: I'm not sure if I still have pics to restore Avian page.

    CYC PHOTON

Cycloidal and harmonic drives are two different things. Harmonic is low power drive. Cycloidal can be low power, but it can be very high power. They are based on different principals. I hope that your new kit will work for you.

    CYC PHOTON

It looks like you already pulled the trigger, so I might be a little late. It was a dude on this forum who build a very cool friction drive. Low power and very compact. I wouldn't mind to put it on my road trike. https://endless-sphere.com/sphere/threads/kepler-friction-drive-comes-of-age.84905/

Did you ever open the cycloidal transmission? If you going to recut the profile you will have to make a new matching part. What is plenty hard?

Observations from a new to tadpole trike rider.

First of all great majority of Chinese goods are overhyped junk. The fact you have them all over your house means nothing. I have some Chinese goods in my house too, but the great majority of what I own is not made in China. Second, they are all made in a regime controlled communist country...
