1.60" or 1.85" wide rim for street? (Enduro ebike build on 19" moto wheels)
Your experiences?

I've combed through the threads and so far I've read the narrower rims are better for off road as they have the tire rounder to dig in to the dirt. But I'm not off roading so the 1.85 is better for wider contact/patch area? even though it's heavier?

Probably make no difference apart from the weight penalty. Also depends on what width tyre you are thonking of running. I have a 1.4 and a 1.8 and both run a 3" off road tyre

I wouldn't worry about the weight difference, it's pretty inconsequential. A wider rim will tend to allow less tire roll in cornering, and that's going to have a noticeable effect on road handling especially if you like to corner fast, it will be more responsive.

Check the specs on the tire you plan to use, they usually have a recommended rim width printed on them.

I chose 1.85", so that I can use the Tubliss system. They have around 10% weight penalty. I love the cornering on the Conti KKS10 (2.5")

The dual use Shinkos (2.75") were in my opinion horrible for cornering on the street.

I ended up getting 19 X 1.85" rims for both front and rear. Have has this setup for quite a while now. Was thinking of changing the front rim to a 19 X 1.4" because its lighter.

What difference will that 1 to 2 pounds lighter rim make?

I ran 1.60 17" wheel setup.Setup worked great for me using all the tyre available at times👍

I have 3.5-inch wide tires on my street commuter, and I like the fatter contact patch. There is some argument over whether a fatter street-tread tire (not knobbies) has better traction in slippery conditions like ice and snow, but for a dry smooth asphalt pavement, a fat tire with street tread is my clear choice.

The counter argument seems to be that a skinny tire with the same weight on it will dig-in harder in all conditions, but I always avoid icy/snowy/muddy conditions.

My entire front wheel is 19x2.5 1.4 SurRon rim/hub,tire, 9.9lbs. Lightest tire rim combo could find. The shinko inthis size is 8 lbs. I got a Duro HF319 for the tire.
