1000W Goldenmotor Dimensions - Spoke length Help needed.

I am having some trouble with lacing up my 1000W goldenmotor.

I originally tried the build with 178mm spokes and a 3x pattern and they were too long.

So for round 2; here are my measurements:

ERD - 545

Hub Flange Diameter - ~230
Flange spacing - 29.2?
Diameter of spoke hole 3
cross pattern - 3x
number of spokes - 36

This gives me ~235mm spoke length in the spoke calculator

However....the 178mm spokes are too long! quite a bit too. So something has to be out of wack here. I am pretty sure about the erd of my wheel at this point, but does anyone have any ideas of how the rest of the data could be wrong? Anyone else build up similar wheels that know the length of their spokes as a sanity check? I am going to do some double checking with my tape measure but these measurements aren't perfect and I am mostly just going by the golden motor drawings on their site.

Any insight/empathy would be appreciated!

I don't see how you can do a 3X pattern on a motor that large, try 1X.

Your other measurements look close but here is the drawing;

I use the spoke length calculater at DTswiss.com and have found it quite accurate.

It is actually the rear hub, sorry I didn't specify.

and yeah, I think I actually have a 2 cross... I followed the instructions here:

as written which say that they are for a 3X

I still think you need to lace 1X which according to the DT Swiss calculator and your numbers gives a length of 168mm with 12mm nipples. Note that I used a flange spacing of 19mm for the left side and 10mm for the right side assuming you'd want to dish the wheel however it didn't make a difference it still gave 168mm for both sides. I usually try to err on the low side since If I get it wrong I can go with 16mm nipples and make up the difference. If you go a little too long you're screwed.

PS, I would check that 230mm Pitch circle diameter number again, it may be 233mm, which would reduce the spokes by 1-2mm.

wow. Thanks so much Russel! yes you are are 233mm for the hub diameter (since there is about 5mm to the outer hub diameter from the middle of the spoke hole) and you are also right about the single cross pattern. I had to read up a bit on the definitions.

I guess I am still a little surprised at the 167 number considering the spokes I have now are ~174-178 and seem WAY too long. But i suppose 7mm difference in spoke length is quite a bit.

Just to cap off this thread, in case someone searches for it in the future

I ended up going with a 164mm spoke because after measuring it was looking like the ERD was more like 538. The rest of the numbers should be good for this hub in case anyone else wanted to use them. I'll report back when I actually get the spokes and build the wheel up to lock it down

Thanks, However I have an older Alex Supra E Pro Rim (which is a sick triple wall wheel- super sturdy) however its so old they no longer have the Supra E pro and therefore don't offer the ERD specs.
It looks alot like this:

I am fairly certain it is 538mm or thereabout. The only Supra E they make now is for BMX bikes. In case anyone else wanted to build a ridiculously overbuilt wheel, Alex still has a Supra FRX wheel which is probably just as strong if not stronger.

Where did you get your spokes? I'm looking for a few. One of mine stripped out while trying to dish the wheel. I've got the same HBS-48V 1000W golden motor as you.

I got my spokes from ebikes.ca. I highly recommend them. Great service. They cut them to whatever length you request, so I suggest removing one of the spokes and measuring it. If not use some of the spoke length calculators online. As you can tell from my problem the rim ERD various hugely from rim to rim

Excellent. It's always hard to say what will work without dimensions because there are such a huge variation in design. Good to hear!
