16 years... working for the man... been set free !

Good to see your plan in action! Never know until you try and best of luck to you....

Gaston, wishing you all the best with your endeavor! Did you see the post the guy made that Maui on Hawaii could use an eBike shop? Said with the tourist rentals and builds repairs it should be a no brainer... or so he said. An eBike shop on a paradise island... what could be better?

Thanks for the encouragement guys !... 8)

Hawaii is HUGE hills, 350w geared hubs would not likely last too long, but a suitable setup could be made for the purpose.. but... i'm an acadian and i like my location ( not a big fan of winters.... but still fine enough with it )

I'm trying not to spread myself too thin with 100's of motors/options/inventory i am unable to maintain, front hubs are easiest to install, the low power and light weight along with an affordable price tag ( yet to be determined.... i have to tally up everything i've spent to get them here.. and run some numbers.. ) is a good place to start.

And yes, instructions, by the time i'm done, there should be no need for any emails, after all these years doing support work by phone, i have a good handle on what it takes to make instructions " simple " ... :p

Gaston, wishing you the absolute best on your new business!

oh, finally, my EI claim was accepted, so I potentially have 42 weeks of benefits to get me into next june... 8) .. stupid corp filled out my ROE with reason for unemployment as " other " and they did not fill out anything in the required comments box.... so my application kept being delayed..... of course.. because the HR contact person listed.. is on holiday and nobody is taking her calls.. !#$^Q!... anyway.. I filed a complaint with EI thru an 800 number I found on google and got it sorted.. finally.. 8 weeks without income kinda sucked.

got some crappy pictures on the home page of the kit.. if anyone cares to check it out.. weather has been terrible last few weeks.... my cheap camera takes crappy pics indoors. :|

a HUGE amount of work yet to do , instructions, andersons, etc etc etc...... before i list it in the sale area. if anyone reading this wants one, i'm willing to discount bare bones " as is " kits !.. send me an email 8)

Pictures look good. People might have questions?
What 36V battery would you recommend?
Do you sell batteries?
What bicycle would you recommend? Torque arms?
How fast will it go?
How far will it go?
Can I get a matching rim for the rear wheel?
Will you build and ship a complete electric bicycle?
Got more questions but I forgot what they were?

I like instructions in PDF format. I like line drawings. Here are some line drawings for you to look at. There are more colors then black. I like colors. Colors on a computer screen don't cost more.

Hate it when people change nice clear PDF drawings to .jpg or .gif see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vector_graphics to see what I am talking about.

Good luck with the sales!

I'll be at the process all winter long, for the spring push... for the " right now " i just wanted to get the basic info out there, while working out paypal checkout, better pictures, various levels of instructions and troubleshooting guides.. and the biggest one yet to be tackled.... batteries.

Right now i'm taking it easy and enjoying life to the fullest... today is my B-Day !... :p

Happy birthday!

Either that is a 50 liter bucket or you have a small head!

Happy birthday Gaston!

Been a while, time for an update.

Life, is good... that's where i'm at right now, today.( That might be quotable some day.. or as the worst disaster.... .. ) ..

But, yeah, i'm sleeping better, eating much better, Sandy is happier than a dog can possibly be.. lots of trike rides thru the woods...

Sandy-park-trike.JPG

Spent some time looking online at jobs, anything that says " customer service... etc.. " makes me sick to my stomach, even some of the better one's , Work From Home Tech support for cell phone companies, etc.. no thanks.. if the time comes and i have to do what needs doing, well so be it.. but until that time comes..... i keep looking towards working from home.. selling stuff online.. starting with ebikes ! lol..

I still catch myself pondering that Nov 26 morning, would i love to roll back time and have a 2nd go at that interview.... not that it would change anything in the end.. i guess doing something for 16 years leaves scars, some good , some bad.

Still making wine, the money i save is unreal, figure 3 bottles a week average ( counting friends shares ) but for what it costs to make, you are nuts to buy it at the store.

moving on...

Getting cold.. real cold. i think the hose is coming in tomorrow.

I bring my neighbor's parents the flyers on Thursdays and check on them, nice people, just sucks how the body goes with years, diabetes, pills, eyesight, sore everthing, down to bodily functions, the whole " I've fallen and i can't get up " joke when i was a kid, becomes a serious reality as i see this. We do the groceries for them, get to pick what they can have and not have on the list according to sodium content.. i am eating better because of this . it's good.

Damn near lost a finger, or part of a hand on Sunday, using lawn tractor to mulch leaves, put it in neutral and park, got off to open a gate, noticed the HUGE pile of leaves on top of the deck and in a pure moment of stupidness, figured it would be a good idea to clear those out, stuck my hand in there and took out half a dozen hand fulls of leaves, then noticed something moving.... Duh.. f'n motor shaft is turning, pulley, but belt is floating there and in that 0.4 seconds, i pulled my hand back and got hit with something, hard..... .. not broken.. just really bruised.. i take that as a 2nd chance on my right hand. thank you very much.

alright, i should stop typing.. glass is empty.

edit. messing with camera software.

Ypedal,

Just read your blog. Believe me, I know exactly how you feel. The exact same thing happened to me two years ago. Actually, we even had the same job too. The only difference was you had 16 years, I had 13. You have one dog and I have two. It took a long while to come to terms with it. I had expected to retire from there. But, in the end, leaving the Death Star was one of the best things to happen to me. IT has changed so much since I started, I've grown to hate it. They replaced me with a 30 year old they could pay 1/2 the money. So much for corporate love.

Today I work for local government. I turned a hobby into a job and enjoy most every day. I wake up every morning (still hating to get up in the cold and the dark) with Buddy laying on the other pillow eye balling me. Yep, it's time to get up as he lies there in his cozy little nest, head on the pillow. But we made it through. I was laid off for 9 months. In retrospect, it was the best 9 months I've had in years.

Wishing you the best,

Thanks.. 8)

I still find myself stewing over the details of how this all went down, but not as frequently. For the time being, i'm doing ok, managing to pay my bills, and trimming my expenses. I may not be financially wealthy but on the emotional side of life, i'm doing better than ever..

I'm finding it difficult to remain productive, or as productive as i'd like to be, it's full on winter out here, cold and everything is snow covered, sandy loves it and drives me nuts wanting to go for walks 10 times a day... i do need the walks tho, so that's all good i guess.

alright.. less typing.. more working.. back to my BMS wiring work.
