from the US18650NC1 datasheet

so does it mean we should all avoid soldering at the dead center? closer the edge instead???

It would seem so.

i guess that doesn't include the guys who solder the huge twisted pair of solder soaked 12AWG wire right there also. since they don't spot weld then it is ok to solder it to the max.

good to know they actually had it in the data sheet all along, but the guy just thinks the chinese are ignorant fools so why would he read their data sheet anyway?

Yep, there are few exceptionally arrogant and ignorant on ES soldering batteries with twisted wire for 20+ years and stuffing them into the bags who shit on Chinese vendors, then buys cells from them, charges premium, if they were from magic source.
Too many people disregard info that is available to implement to max extent on their DIY builds, i just cant figure out the reason yet :)
Good to know about the dead zone in the center, and looking on the spot welds of OEM packs they are always on the sides rather than a center. Info noted, thatnks

You must have a better data sheet than I do about NC1s because there's no mention of this in the data sheet I have. I'm glad you shared this here, I will soon spot weld 18650 cells into a battery and I didn't know this. It looks like it's just on the negative end of the cell or is it both positive and negative?
