The Netherlands are in the last place on almost all polution topics, which means my country is the dirtiest of Europe :(
I am deeply ashamed, but I am very glad to announce we are the first with this:

I don't think I am going to see it in my lifetime here in the States...

What is the legal speed limit on ebikes there? 15 or 20mph is too fast to ride with 12mph bicycles?

I don't like this. Yes, I love the idea of a freeway for ebikes, but to separate them from bicycles is suggesting that they can't use bicycle facilities which is a joke.

I just went across my city during rush hour on my ebike. For the first time I took the frontage rd across the river instead of the separated sidewalk. So I did 40mph across the bridge (traffic goes 45-65mph). On the same bike, I'll take the sidewalk at about 15mph, and stop if I have to due to a pedestrian in the way.

Moral of the story - ebikes should be allowed to go anywhere.

The legal speedlimit for ebikes without insurance or helmet in the Netherlands is ONLY 25 kph, (=15,5 mph), but they never check ebikes, so my estemation is you could have a cruise speed of around 35-40 km/h (20-25mph) and sometimes alittle faster without problems (on an empty road).
There's also recumbents, and the cycle racing sports, and they ride alot faster than the ebike speedlimit ad that's totally legal because over here, there is no such thing as speedlimits on a human powered vehicle.
For 2 wheel vehicles with insurance and licence plate & a helmet obliged, the legal speedlimit is 45 kmh (28mph), but in reality almost every scooter is doing 60kmh (37mph) and if checked on the roller you will not get a ticket for that, you're on the limit though, any faster means ticket.

On the roads where scooters are allowed to ride along with the cars, the speedlimit of the cars is never more than 50kph (31mph), and you need to be able to do about 60kph on your scooter for it to be the safest. Atleast that's what road users like me think....

The 45kph rule is originated from the 60s in the past ceintury, when people rid on solexes and stuff, waaay outdated!
