I’m trying to convert a minibike ( for those that where not teens in the ‘70’s, it’s small off-road motor cycle), to electric.

I have a 72v 3000w kit (motor, controller, grip throttle, etc). I guess it pencils out to about 4 HP. I fear it might be underpowered. If I can figure out how to get two motors on a jack shaft, can the battery & single controller run two motors ?

That's a lot more real world power than a 4hp stinker motor would offer. Keep in mind that an electric motor gives maximum torque at zero RPM. 4hp from a pollution motor is a peak rating. At any other RPM, the electric motor will be doing more for you. Also, electric motors can deliver peaks far in excess of their ratings, if the battery and controller permit. I would try it before deciding it requires more.

One controller will not run two motors. You'd have to have a second controller for that. One battery can serve both, as long as it's capable of delivering enough current for both.
