so i am making a custom frame and a 2 speed gearbox from a maf scooter using a 80-100 rc motor. it will have 15s 20pack and a 2000w controller. more pics to come.

i had the gearbox come this morning i will put a few pics up for now but will do a teardown soon with all the dimensions and bearing specs.

gearbox ratio

first gear- input shaft 3 turns to 1 output shaft
second gear-input shsft 1-3/4 turns to 1 ouput shaft

I've been curious about these for a while. Thanks for posting.

For those who are curious, second gear is activated by a centripetal clutch, and once the proper RPM is attained, the first gear has an over-running freewheel. What supplier did you buy this from, and what are they selling for now? (if you don't mind me asking)

hi it was £48 off ebay think thats about 70 dollar.

i just bought it by chance but it turns out to be a nice little 2 speed i ust hope it stays together lol.

drive shaft parts

clutch parts note in the pics i put the plates in wrong, it should be the washer disc then clutch plate then cover plate. there is another clutch plate the other side of the pulley aswell.

not the best drawing but will update them later just thought i would put them up incase anyone needs them.

the ouput shaft was on the other side i needed it to be so i flipped the shaft over and turned around the clutch bearing and now the output is on the other side. :D

i ordered the gear changer and it come this morning. still waiting on a few bits before i can start putting it all together. but they should all be here by this week.

controller come this morning so i can start making the frame now a i have everyting for the sizes.

Thud will be interested in this.

I wonder how much power it will handle before exploding?

the motor has a lot of power but heats up fast when you start to push it. i am looking into water cooling it at the moment. i am going to get back on this now i have just been thinking over the design for a couple of weeks to see what will work best.

i done quick mock up of the frame out of some scrap just to see what i might do with it. thought i would put them up for any suggestions.

this is not the final design i am just messing about with bits of scrap to get an idea of the drive line and suspension.

still messing about with how to set it all up. i mounted the motor and gearbox on the back swingarm so i didn't have to mess about with loads of chain tensioners plus to try and distribute the weight as i seem to ramp everything i see lol. i have an idea how to mount the shock but i need to move a few bits first. but its getting there.

need to make the support plate for this side and the bearing supports. i need to adjust the plate a bit to align the gearbox up with the back wheel as i marke it before welding but it moved lol.

wow this is the drivetrain i've always wanted, 2-speed! right now i'm building one w/ a low-Kv BHT motor, single-speed to the rear hub, and i fear that it might suck during extreme climbs

what are the gear ratios on this gearbox? is there a way to "shift" it manually?

hi i was running a 12-76 sprockets on the bike it all come off and had a top speed of about 30-40mph but the gearing was a tad high.
i have keep the same sprocket for the final drive but now wth the gear box i have a 3-1 ratio in first and a 1-1 2nd gear.
i posted a pic up in ths thread of the shifter its just the same as a 3 speed front derailleur shifter, when you push the lever it clamps the clutch plates together to engage 2nd gear. its a really simple gearbox.

still loads to do, i have had to use a 160mm suspension unit for now until my other one comes so i have just tak welded it on for now but its not in the right posiston but i wll sort that out later. still have to make the bearing support on the gearbox side you can see in the pic.

still have to make the disc brake mount and a few other small bits.

Whow, a vision of me too.

What motor are you using there with what rpm outputs?
What watts are you planning to force trough that gearbox?
and did you ever count the teeth of the belt-sprockets ?
I'm really curious if that rims will hold for awhile.

Anyway, i will stalk this thread

quick vid of first test run. still have to sort out a few things before i can test ride.

whow, really nice build.

Sounds pretty loud on the video, but i guess its hard to compare how that sounded in your "reality".
does the loudest sounds come from the motor or the gearbox.

Do you think you will be able to shift the gears on full load ?
and did i understod right there is a freewheel in the gearbox?

hi
all the noise is coming from the chain, i have the motor to gearbox chain really tight at the moment because i don't have the bearing support i didn't want it coming off. i think changing the 11 tooth front drive sprocket to a 14 will help aswell.
the gearbox is off a maff 70cc scooter and they seem to change ok at load so i am hoping it will be ok (fingers crossed lol)
yes there is a freewheel clutch bearing built into the box on the output shaft, it was right hand drive when i got it but if you take it apart and reverse the clutch bearing you can flip it to left and drive.
