Just bought a 2001 Honda Step Compo...

I'm wanting to convert it from NiMH to Li. I know just enough to get me in trouble.

As everything inside is proprietary (honda) I was planning to remove the stock battery and replace it with the biggest Li unit I could.

Here are the motor/battery specs...
DC brush motor / 235W
Ni-MH / 24V-3.6Ah

Can I just drop a 24V Li battery (biggest Ah I can fit) or will I need a new controller and a host of other electronic parts to make this work???

Thanks!

with a tiny brushed motor like that you should try to find one that can handle the power you are thinking of using. if you can find a brushless motor that fits then it would be worth doing since the brushed motor will be toast. imo

I doubt I could change the motor. I've not got the bike yet, but it appears to be inside the bottom bracket. I'm sure its some sort of custom built motor...not a run-of-the-mill Chinese unit. Not saying it can't be done...but probably difficult to change the motor and keep the OEM look/design.

FYI, the bike I got is pretty much brand new...so I'd imagine the motor should last a while. I'm not going for all out power, nor changing power level at all. Just looking to put in a Lithium battery in place of the NiMH unit as the NiMH battery (though un-used) is 10+ years old...probably toast and not maintained properly.

Thanks!
