Hi, first post here and I have a question. I have access to a bunch of new 3.8aH 12V powersonic batteries. Not an ideal size I know, but I'm wondering if I can make it work. I'd like to pick up one of the 500W ebike kits that are for sale in the classifieds for $249. Can I make up a pack that will be useable for a 10 mile (one way) commute with moderate hills?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Probobally, if you paralell enough of them. At least 3 paralelled, then those series connected to make about 36v 11.5 ah. Get em real cheap though. Freebie I hope. 3p - 4s even better, for a 48v pack. Charger will be cheap on ebay, I just ordered a 48v sla charger for $25 shipped.

Yup, freebies they are. Thanks dogman, I fugured with enough of them it would work. Now to see if I have 12 of them.

Is that the Ebikekit blowout I saw in there? Yeah snap that bad boy up and fast. Do you happen to know the C rate on the batteries though? 22amps isn't a very high load, but if your batteries are meant for slow discharge it could be bad for them. Oh wait, lead? It should be fine then.

Since they are freebies, just paralell as many as you can, and go for it. Whatever you get out of it takes you further down the road, till you can afford the lithium.
