Hey,

I have the Bafang 500w, 36v mid-drive unit with a dolphin battery mounted on the downtube. The power cable from the battery mount is too long as it the power cable from the motor. The plan is to remove the current connectors (bullet I think) shorten the cables and 4 new bullet connectors, attach together and seal with heat-shrink. Sounds easy! Will 4mm bullet connectors like these do the job? Am I missing something?

Thanks

I'd by a nice sealed twin connector, the bullets will corroded eventually..

Any chance of a link? I don't know what I'm looking for.

These? https://www.amazon.co.uk/Kits-Waterproof-Electrical-Connector-18Awg/dp/B01DRYDP98/ref=sr_1_19?ie=UTF8&qid=1470165617&sr=8-19&keywords=waterproof+power+connectors

Thanks

Put 141719280389 into ebay (good for 30 amps).

Alternative is solder and shrinkwrap if you don't plan to remove them again.

I prefere solder and shrinkwrap wherever possible on the motorbikes.

Nice one.

I might go for the solder-wrap option. Wouldn't the bullet connectors be protected if shrink wrapped?

The ones you listed are really only suitable for causing frustration. They work at low power levels, in dry, low vibration environments, but aren't so good on an ebike. Look to R/C connectors for better quality connectors.

For the battery, you want one of these anti spark plugs.

For the motor, you'll have better luck with some of these:

I'd cut the connectors off then solder the wires back together, heat-shrink the joins individually and totally. Why do you need a connector? The battery is separately removable. In the future, if you want to use the motor on a different installation, you can think about connectors then.

Like they said. the bullets you show are good for just a few amps.

The 4 mm hobby RC bullets much longer, better contact area, those will work great.

Not suggested since some hate em,, Anderson power poles, in 45 amps size.

4 mm hobby bullets likely the most fool proof, easy to solder.

That anti spark connector kind of cool. But people make way too much a big deal about the spark. good connectors can handle the spark fine.

Thanks for the input. I would prefer for them to be soldered I think. Unless something goes wrong with bike or kit I won't be taking it off and it would be neater...I have found these in a local shop http://www.anticsonline.co.uk/632_1_1373681.html so will get these just in case. I've cut and soldered wires before ok but if I mess the power cab;e up, it's £75 for a new controller so I'm a bit wary of doing it atm.

Job done and all went well!
I removed 45cm of cable in total, folded, twisted and soldered the joins. Bit messy and slightly bulky job with the soldering but covered up nicely with heat shrink and a little elec tape. I've been out today and gave it stacks with no issues.
One of the main roads in town was closed to motorists for a cycle event today so I did a lap of the circuit getting to a top speed of 35mph out of a Bafang 500w mid-drive on a 29er rigid mtb...was a buzz!
