So, I had mentioned 6 months ago that Honda gave my buddy Bisi a couple of the un-released CR-Z hybrids to play with. The car is pretty much a putzy turd in stock form. He made one into something fun to drive, and kept the hybrid system.
Werid factory OEM fuel sump
Crude rockers that nobody is digging.
Custom 12v to 16v type vtec cam.
OEM block/pistons and an OEM coolant flow diverter. None of this stuff was kosher for power.
The solution? Cut the OEM sleeves entirely out of the block and replace them with ductile iron sleeves with external structural bracing.
The head bolts were for chicks. Re-drilled, tapped, and threaded in some ARP studs.
OEM piston and rod is a lightweight low-friction design, but hardly suitable for a racing build, so it all had to go.
Rod bolts also were for chicks... Seriously Honda...
Robust OEM girdle design.
Notice that AN-bung welded into the pan? Hmm... Wonder what this car's getting...
Yup. Monster turbo. Not my style, but whatever, it works.
Yes, that's 327ft-lbs of torque and 467whp (way over 500hp at the crank) from this tiny little engine. lol
Yep. Parachute on the back of a hybrid CR-Z. lol. Perhaps the first ever?
Enjoy!
