4s BMS suggestion

Hello,

I have some prismatic cells from a Mitsubishi I-Miev electric car. They are LEV50s.

I also have a handheld battery booster/inverter unit (Motomaster Eliminator Powerbox) that contains a dead 12V sealed lead acid battery. It just so happens that a module of 4 LEV50s fits nearly perfectly where the SLA used to live.

I'd like to protect my 4s LEV50 module with a high current BMS that has adjustable max and min voltages, so I can keep things in spec for the inverter and maximize battery life. The inverter is good for 10-16V, so I'd like to limit the pack to 16V on the high side (4V/cell) and 13.2V (3.3V/cell) on the low side. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Andrew

There are a few programmable BMS units, but most of them are probably a lot lower current than you need. You don't say what that limit is, so I don't know where to point you yet.

However, you can use BMSs that has no actual discharge FET, just an output control, so you can use a contactor or relay instead, and have as high a current as you can find one of those for.

IIRC, there is one by Chargery that jonyjoe303 here on ES has mentioned numerous times:

Amberwolf: The LEV50 cells are good for 300A continuous. I'd be happy with 100A in my application.
