8-Speed Casette to 7-Speed Freewheel

I currently have an 8-speed Shimano cassette. I'm getting a bike kit that comes with a 7-speed freewheel. Will I need to do anything unusual to go from one to the other?

Nope. They both have about 5.0mm spacing, so you will just need to adjust your derailuer end points.

yep, no big changes. You will just have a missing shift on the shifter. All works fine.

And they are both correct answers that agree too! I find it a bit hard sometimes to get my derailur to index perfect on both ends of the 7 speed with an 8 speed shifter. More than likely, it's just the cheap model derailur that never indexed that great in the first place.

But likely you won't want that biggest cog anymore anyway. So you can just dial it in to index nice on the small cogs.
