Daaamn..

A123 cells can also blow up, just about any battery can, given the right circumstances.

Glad you are not hurt, and yes, as LFP said, dust masks or better yet, respirators are highly recommended when cleaning fine black dust ......

the video is not working for me.. ?

sorry i remove it from my channel because its my karaoke channel , the dust is metal dust because i saw like a shinning so its not so volatile but its all gone now i also clean all my walls . but there another funny video of my i just made 10 minute ago http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IxkpzXySX6k&feature=youtu.be

Yep. 18650's are nasty shrapnel throwing things when they blow. Give me pouches anyday.

Wow ! Fearless LFP is afraid of 18650 cells !

I have been reading your posts for years and you really are afraid of 18650 cells !

All of them it seems. You lump all brands together !

I guess we are all scared of something ? :)

( I have never heard of anyone being hurt by 18650 shrapnel ) ?

I was working on a crt big screen once that other techs had been working on and parts had been replaced but it would not come on.

I was doing some tests and when I turned it on the blue crt exploded. Went off like a shotgun and glass went all over.

One time I was working on a Sony crt tv that would not come on.

Replaced a few parts and turned it on. The flyback exploded.

Went off like a shotgun. Parts went all over.

I could go on and on.

Yeah, Word. Electric stuff can explode.

Don't mess with it if you are afraid. Just sayin........

i would not say i'm afraid, more like cautious, and aware of the potential, and when something goes BANG in a spectacular fashion i still get the jitters for a moment/while ... then step right up and go at it again lol..

Ask an MX rider how he feels moments after messing up a landing from a tripple..

On the topic of wearing a dust mask, dust masks are bullshit ineffectives. The concept of those styles of masks were designed to keep things like the fine mist a human expels when they sneeze from others (think tuberculosis).

Likely the best way to go when you are concerned with breathing really clean air is a rubber or silicone mask with a p100 filter. When doing something like grinding metal, cleaning something dirty or anything that would toss a bunch of garbage in the air (do you know what carpet is made out of and what happens when you vacuum it?), I see wearing a p100 as essential as being present while a battery pack charges.

Personally, in that situation I think it would have been far more wise to open all the windows, turn off all the power and remove all risks and then go out for several hours to let the air clear real well.

I'll see if i can find the post on a flashlight forum showing a guy with a good bruise from a rocketing 18650, been a while since i saw it.

Yeah, but the E.S. kids do KFF pictures and such !

Those flashlight kids got a bruise ?

Translation said his thumb was opened to the bone

That's a bit more than a little char on your fingers.

Anyone dumb enough to buy and use Ultrafires deserves this type of injury. Anyone lumping Ultrafire 18650 batteries with 18650 batteries from Panasonic, Sanyo, Sony... is fear mongering or is extremely stupid.

I have had konion cells shoot fire out of the top. Freshly out of a used tool pack.
I believe you. Only idiots believe that Konions are safer than 18650 LiCos. Both are manufactured by Sony, btw. For every Konion sold, Sony sells at least 10 LiCo cells. More likely is that idiot is spreading fear so he can sell his used Konions.

ultrafire is nothing but a shrink wrap,, what you get inside can be anything from used laptop cells of any variety and any possible capacity regardless of what the label says.
Used? Or reject/defective? As fas as I know, they are NOT used. They are rejects. Meaning that they should never be sold, let alone used.

Word to that! My bro just narrowly escaped his house burning to the ground from a konion pack that had been sitting on a shelf in his living room for weeks. Damned thing just decided to start spitting fire randomly. If his roommate had not been right there at the moment it went off there would be a lot more than $500 in batteries and a small portion of the shelf up in flames.

I tried and tried to get an 18650 laptop cell to explode like that and was never able to do it.

It was easy for you to do ?

Please do tell, what brand of cell was the one you were able to get to explode like a 22 ?

the cells was green but they come with the headlamp kit so i don't know what is the brand of the cells , the red cell I show in the video is not exactly the same because ithey come from used laptop but they are 18650 like the green one

Well you are not the only one to start a thread in broken English about battery cells making claims that are not easy to prove.

Too bad for the people that read the whole thread hoping to find out what brand and type of cell will explode like this.

I sure would like to know.

Just saying they are 18650 and red or green may be all the info LFP needs to reach an opinion but some of us are a little more curious and like to check out other peoples online battery cell claims.

There is huge battery pack building info on this forum but it is in English.

Not being good at English surely makes it harder to learn about batteries on E.S.

I would suggest your next step in learning about li ion would be to brush up on your English.

Let's see if I can repost the pictures from the 18650 explosion threat that Ypedal posted above... certainly impressive:

you should brush up on your courteousness

Sorry.

I spent a lot of time and wasted a lot of 18650 cells trying to get an 18650 laptop cell to do what LFP said they would do and failed.

Then this kid gets them to explode and won't share what brand they are.

I share alot of stuff with ya'll.

That A123 kid is sure sharing a lot.

I like him.

He should be a guru. :)
