I've bought an EMC-600 charger, and would like to add a V-A display. For this I need a 4-30V source, and would prefer this source to be internal in the charger. The fan runs at 12V I presume, so where could I tap into that 12V source?
If you open it up you'll probably find a header that the fan is plugged into. I'd check the voltage before/after though. I opened up one charger that just used a resistor in line with the full charger voltage to limit fan current. Adding additional load could drop the voltage to the fan and reduce cooling. If the fan runs off a dedicated 12V tap on the transformer then you will probably have less to worry about. Why not just use an inline volt/amp meter?
The 12v is probably there even when the fan is off. I would guess the fan turns on when the current and/or temperature gets above a certain point, that's how my charger works.
