Any Panasonic 36v Mid Drive experts around??

Hi all,


Recently acquired 5 Panasonic 36V. mid Drive units. (Three of which are new)

I have a few 10ah batteries but they all have bad BMS boards.


If I plug in a 36V battery to the system I can get the units to power up, but I cannot get them to work as the battery lights are all blinking ......I am assuming this is due to the fact that the motor is not seeing a connection to the battery itself.

So,
Is there anyone that has any experience with the Panasonic 36V units?

If so is there a way for me to use an aftermarket and or readily available 36V battery?
Instead of a BMZ or equivalent replacement that is very very expensive?

I am asking cause I have 3-4 sample packs from powerizer and 36v packs that came off a few Falcos I tested.

I have a few Surly Big Dummy's that have been modified to fit a Panasonic ..lit would be to get them going.
( my original plan was to use these modified Surlys with the Shimano Steps System......but i just heard my samples won't arrive till fall. )

I have limited experience with older 24-36V NiMh systems. IIRC, those use a temp sensor from the battery and lack of that signal would likely throw an error code. Do you know what chemistry these use?

Nice little units and quite plentiful in Japan. Perhaps an english speaking dealer in Japan could help?

That's exactly what I was curious about. if there was a way for me to bridge that connection and or trick the system to get rid of the temp sensing.

I have access to quite a few 36V batteries that I have in stock and I am familiar that the Panasonic electronics are quite sensitive and I dont want to fry a board while attempting to find the appropriate circuit.

I think it was a simple thermal switch tied to ground similar to other NiMh packs I've used? Maybe it was B+? Yes, they can be sesnitive to experimentation.

Do you have any working battery packs which can be probed with DVM to figure out what the controller might be looking for? I remember that's how I determined the temp switch operation. This was 10 years ago - sorry not more help.
