Bafang G370 Internal Access

Hi,
I’ve got a Bafang G370 that I’d like to install a thermistor in, but I cannot figure out how to access the coils. Has anyone got advice on getting these apart?
The right cap comes off nice and easy giving access to the clutch and gears, but on the left, the cables go through the shaft. Unless I cut the cable or press out the bearing, I cannot see how I’d remove the actual motor.
Does anyone have advice or ideas for this?
Also, I’d like to run oil in this to increase cooling a little. What are current recommendations for these small geared motors?

Have you tried supporting the flange and tapping the axle? I imagine the axle steps up in diameter to accommodate the cable, so you should be able to knock the entire assembly out. Whether the bearing remains in the race, or remains affixed to the axle, will depend, but I’d guess that it was pressed on to the axle and will remain affixed there.

Hi Glennb, thank you! I feel silly, but you’re right. What I thought was the bearing ID is actually just the rubber seal. The shaft does step up with plenty of clearance for the cable.
Things are still pretty tight to get the thermistor in, but I reckon it’ll work.

All good. Worth a try with the thermistor I suppose. It’d be helpful to others here if you document the procedure.

For adding ATF, there’s threads here on the subject, including discussion of better seals to prevent it weeping through the bearings.

It’s also worth contemplating the torque limits of clutch and nylon gears, and possibly your fork dropouts’. A good programmable controller should make it easier to maximise performance while respecting torque limits.
