These spin onto the brake threads present on some hubmotors, same as freewheel threading but on the other side.

As seen here: http://www.users.bigpond.com/solarbbq/bandbrakes.htm

How do they perform when wet?
What about subfreezing weather?
How consistent is the braking power?
What kinda modulation does this give?
Do they use conventional or long cable travel?

Wet: OK
Subfreezing: not sure, it never gets that cold here
Consistent: no. they fade terribly on long downhills
Modulation: sort of until they start to fade.
Travel: long travel, like a vee brake
also: they squeal like a stuck pig when they get hot.

My experience with them is on small (8") wheels. They might behave better on larger wheel diameters. They seem to be popular on chinese bikes.

I have alot of experience with them, they are only suitable as a secondary backup brake, they fade appallingly, squeal, are weak, adjusting for good throw and no drag can be entertaining, can be easily contaminated with lube etc. and the worst point is that they can fail on a long downhill completely as in the band can separate.
Bear in mind this is riding in very hilly environment.

Sounds perfect, pretty much like a coaster brake.
