Battery packs on eBay

Hi guys,

I'm looking for a suitable battery pack for my new ebike (48V, 20AH) with Golden Motor Smart Pie hub motor (400W). At first I wanted to order everything directly from chinese goldenmotor.com, but then I realized that there are many better (or just better looking :) ) offers for battery packs on eBay.

What are the differences between these two packs?

Is there a reason to pay $250-300 more for the second pack? As far as I can see, the first has lower maximum discharging current (40A vs 60A), but does it matter if power rating of my motor is only 400W? Has anyone tried that seller from eBay? Could you recommend any other chinese seller offering similar prices?

first pack is CRAP 100%,
second based on prismatics.

Lots of unknown ebay vendors. Some sell the notoriously poorly assembled 18650 cell packs, but they are not so common today.

Do try to find a vendor using the more reliable prismatic cells. 5 ah cells, so less of them, less connections to possibly disconnect.

One bargian vendor some have been happy with is Sunthing. I keep recomending spending the bucks to get one from pingbattery.com. Since I havent the years of use with others, I can't say if they are better or not. I only know I have been happy with two from ping.

One thing to consider, 48v 20 ah is very large, heavy, and difficult to carry on a bike without ruining how it handles. If possible, get a battery that large split into two pieces so you can put each half in panniers. 48v 15 ah is easier to carry, and might fit into the front triangle of the bike for the best possible ebike ride. 48v 20 ah carried high on a rear rack will suck.

I seriously doubt first pack would deliver 20Ah.
Charger is a joke
the question is should yu believe spacs?
will deliver 40A ?

think about cellman batteries. a123 lifepo4,36v,20amp drives mt tadpole trike at 40kph [hs3540 with lyen 36v,40amp controller] ...if you dont want to go lipo, there isnt a better battery supplier on the net ... he can make any size or configuration you want ... DOGMAN is right..a 48,20on ona two wheeler is very heavy...over 20lbs...and difficult to place and maintain good balance:mrgreen:

we have never seen the first pack here before. the best deals have been from sun-thing28 recently. he used to offer free shipping, because he ships by surface freight and it takes forever to arrive. but several people have bot these, we don't have much history of them failing yet. i was ticked they never replied when i tried to determine if we could get replacement pouches from him. maybe you can ask if you negotiate to buy one of these from him:

I am also considering purchasing a small pack from this seller.

What I did ;

I checked his recent feedback all the way back to a couple of months and then went ahead and messaged all the people that bought packs from him. So far ALL OF THEM told me the pack is still working and has not failed. They all also confirmed the item arrived within 5 days which is crazy. I sent the same message to all the users.

Just my 2Cents. That seller also responded to my questions within a day or two.

i looked at the pictures in his ad too. the cylindrical cells looked like the screw top headways, or they may have been a clone of them like the OSN seems to be a PSI clone. i thought 9kg was not bad for that big a pack too. and that is the same BMS that BMS battery uses i think, so it seems like a solid construction. they had some big packs in their pictures too. that did not look like the Vpower i think someone felt it was. i did not like the 3.65V cutout though. i wonder if that was accurate.

if you looked at the comparison table of the lithium chemistry it seems like they got the descriptions reversed.

Is that what's inside? I didn't look so close at it. Those headway like cells might be good or not. I don't think we know yet.

Bear in mind, that type of cell tends to be a wider package, and harder to pedal around than a 15 ah pouch cell pack when you triangle mount one. Lots to consider, you get a nice battery, but can't carry it well, what good is that?

Of course, maybe you don't plan on any pedaling.

Checking the feedback is a good idea, the all time worst battery vendor we've heard of always had good feedback going back a few months every time he changed his identity. But it was always many many 1 or 2 buck transactions. Then he'd rip off people with a $350-400 battery sale for 30 days, then vanish. Look for people in the battery buisness for awhile, long enough for the customers to have actually recieved one.

Pings been around at least 5 years now, and can supply parts if they are needed.

I'm very interested in finding a 72v 40ah battery for my cromotor but am always worried about buying from China. I came across this ebay listing: http://www.ebay.com/itm/72V-40Ah-Li...27213?pt=Battery_Chargers&hash=item19d7e58b2d

Has 100% feedback going back to May of 2012. Getting a 72v 40ah for $899+shipping is amazing but the listing coming from China scares me. The battery appears packed as one and has a huge weight. Was thinking of mounting on frame top tube. Really like the 40ah for the distance ill get. Any and all opinions on this listing would be very much appreciated.

72v 40 ah would be big and heavy. I couldn't see carrying that much and riding a performance bike. Cargo bike, or trailer, but that would be a heavy load for a set of panniers on a regular bike.
