I have a baker's warming cabinet in my shop and am thinking that it would make a great place to store my batteries. Its aluminum clad and insulated and has a heating element. I'm not sure how hot it likes to run on its own yet.

My shop isnt heated and we do get occasional dips in temp towards 0 F.

Is it worth it to protect all my batteries from the cold?

Is it more dangerous to have all my eggs in one basket as far as fire risk?

I have about 6kWh including molicel and sanyo nmc batteries

Only in outdoor application, or consistently below spec temps for days.

Overtemps reduce lifetime drastically, so cooling needed at high C rate cycling.

silicon heating pads with built in thermostats are cheap, even custom

Most of the info I've seen on the subject shows that Li-Ion is fine being stored at sub freezing temperatures, it just doesn't like being operated when cold.

I'm not totally positive about this, but I'd say a battery at proper storage voltage that's very cold is probably extremely safe in terms of it's likelihood to self immolate.
