These appear to be mechanically similar to the Bafang-BBS01 / BBS02. The motor and secondary drive covers are not round, so that's their trade-marked image. em3ev.com sells MXUS branded direct-drive hubs (which seem to be one of the common 9C clones), so perhaps cell_man might carry them in the future (he carries the BBS02 right now).

BTN also uses the distinctive faceted housings, perhaps it is the same drive. Who makes it? one of them is re-branding (not a problem, but I want to know).

BTN ("Back To Nature") lists their manufacturer as Hangzhou Minrui Trading with shipping from Shanghai and Ningbo.

Listing says it is "hot." Does that mean stolen or just that it gets very warm when in operation?
 
No, it means 'hot' as in desirable.
The Aussie dollar has really slumped, that $370 US equates to $539 AUD, ouch!
 
Whatever happened to all these clones? I've had my bafang going on 2 1/2 years and they still don't have any competition. I was hoping some improvements would be done by now. Prices have dropped a bit, but that is about it.

Just for general information, the Sunstar from Japan was the original drive of this size and configuration, but they were not very interested in exports to the EU and North America, plus...Bafangs BBS01 was cheaper and heavily marketed in the EU, then after its clear success...the BBS02 (with 10mm wider stator and wound to a lower Kv in order to use 48V instead of 36V) was introduced to an eager customer base in the US.

There are many places with a 250W, 500W power limit, but...the BBS02 is capable of an actual 1,000W of power, plus it can visually pass as one of its less-powerful siblings. Of course you would have to obscure the engraved 750W label, which would be wrong, and we would never want you do do anything like that (*wink)
 
It's good to see a new batch of mid drive BBS02 clones. These seem rather similar to the Bafang, but perhaps more refined, given hindsight. Time will tell.

My personal favorite is an older mid drive using a Headline motor. This design was originated by Cyclone and sold in the US by Sick Bike Parts. Here are the sites for Cyclone and SBP:

There are several reasons I like this one.

1. It's cheaper than the others (currently $329+ $14 ship from SBP).
2. The Headline motor uses metal planetary gears, which will last longer - but are louder.
3. The controller is separate, which I prefer though it has pro's and con's.

This setup has more power and torque than the Bafang and its clones. It's also larger, heavier and has more cluttered wiring. It's power is below that of the GNC and Lightning Rods mid drives, but good enough for my modest needs. It's not new, it's not fancy, but it's tried and true, and worth a consideration.
 
The XOFO drive has intrigued me, but it doesn't seem there are many who speak English as a first language have tried it.

I sent the factory an email a while back, but there was a bit of a language barrier in answering some of the technical questions.
 
Any updates on that XOFO torque mid drive??
 
I have got a prototype of the Xofo MMS 48V 350W (18A). Chainline is better than Bafang even with the stock, flat chainring.

The motor is sturdy with generously sized components but the design still feels like a prototype on some points. IMO the TSDZ2 is a better option at the moment for MTB : well implemented torque sensor, much smaller, lighter and the design is proven.

Will post a review when I have finished installing it on my Orbea Occam S10 !
