Here is the Seattle Area we have some great Burger joints.

You can't go wrong with Kidd Valley, Dicks or Redmill.

Another newer Local franchise I really like is Blazing Onion. Their Big Kahuna Burger is great. 1/3-lb patty, Black Forest Ham & a slice of Pineapple with "BOB" sauce. mmm.

It's all about the Habit in So Cal. Of course there are many that love a Double Double from In-N-Out, but I got tired of those in college. There isn't a thing on the Habit menu that isn't absolutely delicious.

They have these new tempura fried green beens that are quite good and their onion rings are THE BEST!

teslanv, did you take that picture or is it a commercial pic? Looks too big to bite into.
Glad I ate lunch already.

Pic from their online menu. - And yes, it's big. The crazy thing is that you can order these in the "XXL" size, which is (3) 1/3-lb patties!!!

If talking non-chain/franchise burgers and much more without all the murder and sadness:

Beach @ Talbert, not too far, near grandma's house. Hmmmmm....You got me at onion rings! 8)
In-N-Out is closer, but their fries are kinda green looking and tasting, unless ordered "animal style".

Presuming burgers = chicken burgers too… 8)

I think the very best chicken burger I ever had was at a little barn-shop on the side of the road halfway between Austin and Shiner in Texas during the fall of 1991. I woz on the hunt to visit the Spoetzl Brewery (makers of Shiner Bock) and a friend told me of this awesome place to eat beside a three-way intersection, and I thought I’d give it a try.

Pull up and parked. There were simple tables outside and in; I sat inside cos of the sun, woz cooler there too. Waitress comes over and I order up this chicken burger for like $6.50. Comes with fries so I order a Coke and waited. And waited. And waited. One half hour goes by and still not lunch. WTF! It’s not a big place and they were not super-busy. At 40 minutes I was certain they had killed a fresh chicken, plucked it, then par-boiled it before roasting. What could possibly be taking so long to prepare a simple chicken burger, I could not fathom. At 50 minutes I was about to leave when comes the lady with a “Texas-sized dinner plate”.

I had never see a chicken breast so large in my life! Easily exceeding 2 pounds, this fillet had been slowly BBQ’d outside over mesquite and truly had a mouthwatering aroma laying there broaching all corners of the giant-sized, no – make that Texas-sized bun beneath. The fixens and fries were equally generous. About the only thing small (in comparison) was the 16-oz. bottle of Coke; though it had a Texas-sized straw hanging out the neck.

It was a heavenly eating experience; I nearly needed an ox-cart to carry me away from the table. A few weeks later my buddy and I took our GFs to Port Aransas for a 3-day weekend, and we had lunch at that fantastic hole-in-the-wall again. Like my pal said, it was really awesome. 8)

I’m looking at the map and damned if I can’t find that intersection, though I think it was on Hwy 95 between Smithville and Flatonia.

There has been no equal burger since, though perhaps many distant seconds.
I’ll have that with a Shiner please. KF

I'll throw in the total opposite

Some suspect burger joints here in China, their take on American style is....interesting.

In Australia 'Burgers Edge' is good for takeout.
We have local 'fish n chip's shops that make buggers better than anything you can get in fast food.

That said a decent lentil burger trumps most average burgers by a mile.

Misplaced this restaurant for over 30 years when they abruptly left North Long Beach. Wife and mother-in-law rediscovered it tonight in OC and has two locations. 8)
Avocado/bacon teriyaki cheeseburger, Avo/shrimp taco, crinkle fries, tempura onion rings, and the #5 sandwich on Armenian bread. Awesome-the menu items are still the same, run by their sons; parents retired. :D :D

My fiancé mixes salsa into the ground beef. I started adding that and some aged cheddar and some bacon and Montreal steak spice right into the lean ground beef. Make that on the BBQ and you will never want to go out for a burger again!

In Southern California you're always trying to compete with In & Out.

Lets see, back in school I knew the guy who came from Southgate, we' get over there occasionally to Luckyboys', but I don't know if they're still there. Used to be Knowlwoods in The OC put up quite a fight, back then we headed into the wilds of Yorba Linda when it WAS a bit rustic, but that went downhill with expanding into a chain. Tommyburger I thought held up just fine as a chain compared to the original up in Hollywood, but the chain didn't seem to work out. Can't find them around me anymore.

Maybe In & Out is safe on its' perch afterall.

I would have to say the burgers at Cheeburger Cheeburger. Hard to beat a place that allows somewhere over 25+ topping choices. Even the milkshakes are awesome.
Never had In and Out until coming out here to Cali, not really impress, but than again I came from Dothan, AL which has serious competition between restaurants. There a crazy amount of restaurants in that city for its size. Actually looked up the number, averaging around 200 restaurants. Though, I think it way higher than that since there a lot of family owned ones too that tend to be over look by visitors to the city.
