Hi guys. I have finished anotherone ebike, with a Olympia MTB frame, front suspension fork, disks and a 500w goldenmotor hub motor.
I use toshiba 3.7v 1.4a litium cells for a 48v 7a batterypack (65 cells). Good feeling of power and acceleration...
mmm...the problem is the motor, that position is not good for jumps, tricks and a little of offroad.
I want to build a bicycle, with pedals and everything of a cycle, but with a motor in the frame like this one
http://tncscooters.com/product.php?sku=106105
and the same offroad skills of a little crossmotorbike.
I chose this http://cgi.ebay.it/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=360107432280 frame for this project.

I need a freewheel mounted on the right pedal with two sprockets, one for the bike chain and one for the motor chain.
I can't find this component to finish my project. Can you help me?

Hi gio,

If you have fabrication skills, you'll get a much better result by making your own using trials cranks and a good quality freewheel.

Uao very good work.
I am going to start building my project.

I have bought this KINISIS frame: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&item=360107432280
What do you think about it?...mmm very cheap.

And now I want to mount the motor inside the frame upon the crankset and use a similar MitchJi trasmission sistem.
Where I can find a motor that fits in the frame?
mmm I am thinking on rc planes motors. Do you know some webshop of this stuff?

Here is a link for a drive unit I am manufacturing.

http://www.endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=7180

You can read through the thread and get an idea of what it is all about.

Here is my original build http://www.endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=3904

There are others here who have run RC equipment as well. If you look in the non-hub motor section, you will find alot of info.

I hope that helps!

Matt

Matt I am very impressed by your work (and art :p).
My project is not so big and complicated, I need only a 5/10 cm diameter RC motor to put in my frame and use a cyclone similar trasmission. I know that the problem is the rpm, I would solve this problem with two trasmissions.
Do you know where I can buy the motor cables and controller?
Is there some webshop?

What do you think about this? http://cgi.ebay.com/RC-Motor-Helicopter-E600-KV1600_W0QQitemZ280282412406QQihZ018QQcategoryZ34055QQtcZphotoQQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1742.m153.l1262QQ_trksidZp1742.m153.l1262
Is it possibile to use it with 14a?

I don't know very much about choosing RC motors and controllers but "KV1600" is going to be a huge problem. Thats 1600 rpm per volt which means gear reduction is going to be very difficult. I think you want to look for a motor with a maximum KV of about 200.

You also want to choose a controller that will work well with an Ebike. The Castle HV series have an excellent reputation:
http://www.castlespecialprojects.com/csp_50_volts.html

Please note that the amp ratings are highly dependent on air flow and also that for Ebike use Castle recommends adding additional capacitors:
http://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=28&t=7504

I don't think he still has any in stock but John Holmes had the Castle HV110 for about $225. Entering "esc" for the coupon code brings the price down to about $185:

Hi guys.
My project goes on, and now i am building:

-Kinesis dh (?) frame (do you know something about this frame?) bought in england
DSC_0074.JPG

-Yasusu taiwan gas and spring shock with 2 regulations built on my specification and shipped here in Italy
-Suntour Epicon rdl with remote lockout
-Home made DIY freewheel crank with final trasmission sprocket and motor sprocket.

I have bought from www.electricscooterparts.com the motor 24v 250w geared and other various components.

This is one of my home made lithium batterys:

3.7v 14A ready to be connected to BMS
I will use seven of this packs in a bagpack

I am looking for carbon sheets. to do something like this:
DSC_0077.JPG

In this box I will put all the electric devices and controllers.
I need to mount an additional controller to manage power only when pedaling. Here in Italy we have a shameful law.If you have a bike with potentiometer, regulator or throttle you are against the law. You must pedal if you want assistance, all systems that gives assistance without pedaling are against the law.250w 36v is the power limit, 25 km/h is the speed limit. For this reason I need to mount another controller that manage data from sensors of pedaling and speed, and some other (like gear change sensor that help the controller to cut off power like in the electric gears in supermotard/sbk championship) , deciding what to do depending on what happens... and controlling an lcd screen with all data volt A motor temp ecc. This is the reason of so much space apparently useless.

I am thinking to open another thread where I want to explain and share an idea that I thought of.
I am working on robots and automation and I found a good controller in the net: Arduino.
Massimo Banzi is the creator and founder of this Open source project. The uses of this controller are many.
Some DIYer build ardupilot and blimpduino, UAV flying autonomous robots with less then 200 bucks.
www.oomlout.com are another application, a sort of laptop "porter" with capability of autonomous movement in house.
I want to do ardubike
It's very simple using digital and analogic ports (or connection I don't know in english) you can connect everything and you can program the PIC chip with your program and decide what to do instead of..

But...
I need a hand (like we say i n italy) to build up the motor mount...
I can't say in english... the motor attachment on to the frame..

Hi Geoscarab,
Where are you based? I visit north Italy often (Piacenza).
It's a shame the laws are so strict regarding Ebikes and Econversions. I lived there for several years until about 6 years ago, I would have been very upset not to be able to use my conversions there:(

What kind of help do you need with the motor mount? If it helps, I can speak fair Italian, though technical terms may baffle me!

Good work so far!

Steve

hahha grande
I lived in Croara, val trebbia and in Piacenza!!
Now I live in Milan.

I need to project the mount!!
this is my motor
http://tncscooters.com/product.php?sku=106105

You need to project the mount? You mean extend?
you have 2 choices, find a machine shop locally, or work out what you need, make a cardboard cutout (mock up/template) and get someone here to make it for you (I would be willing). The only problem with the second option, is that it takes 3 weeks for the post to arrive in Italy! (Il mio figlio sta ancora aspetando il suo regalo di compliano)

Hi!!
Thank you for ther answer!!Your ducati SS wok is a masterpiece, I had a ducati ss600 (carb) some years ago, most agile and lightweigth feeling roadbike.
Here it is a sample and not very good render of the screw mount:
motorholder.jpg

Looks good. If you can add dimensions to that I'd be pleased to have a go for you.

Italian bikes are the coolest. I'll do my best to stay away from Japbike conversions (though i'm sure people will want them anyway!)

The project goes on:

I have built manually with iron welder a nearly square motor mount. I have found the chain line trhow pedal sprocket and motor and I test it with 3 12v 10a chineese garbage battery.
My motor is a 450w 36v geared motor with its controller (chinese). When I accelerate I noticed that the controller when I accelerete at full throttle it gives me less power then 3/4 of gas. I noticed that after some time of use and high acceleration the motor and the motor mount moves rotating in right direction (chain side) next to the pedal sometimes hitting it.
Third I noticed less power then a 500w 48v goldenmotor hubmotor, but I have some problem in the primary trasmission and chain tensioners, then the batteries are killed.

top speed: around 40km/h
acceleration: not surprising

1) I have to find a trick to hibernate motor in a decided position without do holes in the frame
2) I have to look for another controller and do some test for the full throttle power erogation problem
3) I have to finish the project to compare with the hubmotor single speed 500w.

I need some advices

here it is some pictures!!! :D :D :D :) :) :)

I love your contribute to technology and evolution of humanity!!!

Long "mending plates" attached to the sides of the motor-mount that extend behind the frame might keep it from turning.

Screwing my screws with much torque the first problem is quite solved.
Now I am looking for new controllers that fits on my motor!!!

Hi Gio,

I suspect your batteries are not good. With full-throttle the voltage sag may put them below LVC.

You might attach a voltmeter while you ride.

Trying with better batteries could be a another good test.

Hi Gio,

when you finish your project come in Liguria and we will go to Portofino mountain for a epic session of offroad with e-mtb.

Ciau,

Sergio :D
