The 10-foot flexible tube, which uses electroluminescent technology, is wound around the bike frame and secured with ties. It creates a highly-visible outline of the bike frame.

The light uses two AA batteries, is available in eight colours and has three settings: constant illumination, slow and fast flashing mode.

The safety light adds only two ounces of weight to the bicycle and sells for $24.95 (U.S.) on the website http://www.bikeglow.com/. They expect to have a Canadian distributor soon.

I used the stuff from clearanced PC floppy and IDE cables for a while on my old DayGlo Avenger's baskets (before I moved to pannier boxes). At first it was pretty bright, but very shortly it just lit the edges of the basket ok in complete darkness, but even a streetlight made it seem dim, and headlights and stuff would overwhelm it. It did make me more visible, though, overall. Not as good as the LED marker and tail and signal lights I built later, but better than nothing.

So, a big warning: don't leave the stuff in the direct sunlight, or the UV will very quickly fade the phosphorescent material in it, and it will no longer glow nearly as bright, nor even the same color!
