I am laying out my new BMS.

V1 will be for 4S and 8S packs

After a very short review it seems some industries are centering around the 6S standard in JST-XH.
Given the history I we have with this connector I am moving forward with it... regardless of cell count.

JST-XH-7
90 degree board mount
Vertical mount in some cases
Raw pin header in rare cases (never - you need the lock)

Its a 0.1" spacing connector (almost - close enough) so its compatible with any standard pin header.
It can be under-populated with 2 pin, 3 pin, ... 6 pin... for any value from 1S to 6S.
For over 6S two connectors.

If you have input its welcome.
I have never owned an 8S pack so I am not going with 8S

I admit the pin spacing is a little close for Electrolysis concerns.
The hobby industry has proven this OK
The Ebike experience I have (way over 10,000hrs in all sorts of wet) has shown them to be reliable even DRY

My plan is to pack them with dialectric grease.
I do not think they will fail an IP67 test when packed and connected

One can plug a 2S-5S pack directly into a 6S header by cutting the second locking tab
#1 locking tab still retains connector

Tons of parts on the market for cheap to support this
Everybody is tooled up for automated manufacture of harnesses

Compatible with all balance chargers, most Hobby packs... and most importantly...

Someone gave me a very large box full of 6S packs!!!
So... there you go.
Thats how standards get set... and that's why I am always so weary of "reviews" on the internet.
