Shopping for a BOB trailer to tow behind my bike for out on the trail and running errands. Has anyone made one of these units to work with our solid axle motors. The Bob nuts that come from the manufactures do not seem to have thread patterns to match our 3540 hub axle threads. I was thinking of chopping apart the quick release mechanism shown here......

and then weld the ends of there quick release units to an extra set of steel nuts that fit my axle. Any one out there tried this?

Couldn't you just hacksaw a little bit out of the holes on the bob so that it will slide over your axle and then put a nut on each side to secure it.

Actually it appears that some of the bobs do just hook over the top of the axle so a little filing to open the entry up a little would make sure it fits over the larger axle, as for stopping it jumping off you could fit a large washer over the axle first and bend it it a right angle under the dropout so that it can't jump out at high speed and just fix that on with another nut.

Thanks Batfink but the special machined ends that come stock with the BOB super long skewers have a smooth slot for the trailer drop outs to rotate on. It appears in your picture like the trailer drop outs just hang on the axle but there are special machined pieces there at the ends of the axle skewer quick release. I think it would mess up the axle threads over time if it was just hang over the axle. I think I would want to use the machined pieces meant to mate up with the drop outs but just checking what others have done that may have this trailer mounted on an e-bike.

I've thought about a similar problem, but with a NuVinci Auto Shift CVT. A Bob nut would fit the left side, but there is no way to adapt the right side.

One solution might be to add a small flat extension on each side, bolted at the axle and stabalized by a clamp or another bolt to the rear triangle. Then add a couple of Bob Nuts to short bolts through the flat extension.

Another solution I am considering is using one of those two wheel child trailers that just attaches on the left side. The last time I was in a Wal-Mart they had a fairly large trailer for $99.

Also I am wondering if anyone has used this trailer to lug all our batteries around to keep the weight of the bike itself? Seems like it could be a nice simple way of storing all the batteries and what not except for the issues of the cost of the trailer.
