PRESS RELEASE

Brammo announces the Empulse - a trio of electric motorcycles capable of 100mph+, 100 miles on a single charge, with prices starting at $9995

Ashland, Oregon – July 7th, 2010. Brammo, Inc. announced today it will begin production of an electric sportbike, calling it the "Empulse." It demonstrated a pre-production prototype today and all three production models of the Empulse will be capable of sustaining 100 mph. The three models will have different battery capacities, all utilizing an innovative proprietary array, the Brammo Power™ battery and vehicle management system. The Empulse is available for immediate order and deliveries will commence in 2011.

Craig Bramscher, Founder and CEO of Brammo said "motorcycle riders have been requesting increased speed and range and I am proud and delighted to reveal these game changing Brammo electric motorcycles. Our customers expect Brammo to design and produce the world's most exciting (and affordable) electric motorcycles and that's exactly what we have done." Bramscher continued, "today's announcement promises no more range anxiety for Brammo customers."

The Empulse Trio
All three models of the Empulse will be freeway capable and will enjoy a top speed in excess of 100mph. Each of the three models will offer customers a different average range from a single charge. The Empulse 6.0 is capable of 60 miles average range , the Empulse 8.0 is capable of 80 miles average range and the top of the line Empulse 10.0 is capable of a travelling 100 miles on a single charge. Range of all three models can be extended by travelling at lower speeds.

Estimated MSRP for the Empulse trio when deliveries start next year are; Empulse 6.0 $9,995, Empulse 8.0 $11,995 and Empluse One Hundred $13995. All three models will be eligible for Federal and State tax incentives. For example, the Empulse 10.0 may cost as little as $7000 in certain states after Federal and State incentives.

Empulse Technology
Todays announcement sees the first application of Brammo's innovative electric powertrain system including the Brammo Powerâ„¢ battery pack and Brammo Powerâ„¢ vehicle management system. Brammo's breakthrough in price/energy density is at the heart of today's announcement and is unequalled in the electric vehicle industry. The Empulse is also the world's first production electric motorcycle to have a water cooled motor.

Brian Wismann, Director of Product Development at Brammo and designer of the Empulse said,
"The Empulse reveals the significant price performance that we can deliver using Brammo Powerâ„¢ technology. Just like it did with the Enertia Powercycle, Brammo has again raised the bar in terms of electrical drivetrain innovation and time to market."

Empulse Availability
Customers can place their order for an Empulse by visiting the Brammo website http://www.brammo.com . Deliveries are expected to commence in mid-2011 and orders will be filled on a first-come, first-serve basis. I recall two stories about customer response to innovative design.

One motorcycle manufacturer decided that since the fuel tank is heavier than the air filter, they mounted the fuel tank lower and the air filter above the engine (to make ther center of gravity slightly lower). They floated several designs past customer review polls and previous customers didn't like the look, so,...they made the air filter "look like" a fuel tank.

One motorcycle manufacturer came out with their first liquid-cooled street bike, and to emphasize it, the engine had no fins. They felt this cutting edge feature should be visible and distinctive. Sales plummeted. Customers said the engine looked like an air compressor. The next model year, the only change was to add fins to the engine that really didn't do anything...but look cool.

I can't help but to notice that since this E-Moto was likely floated past a lot of potential customer polls,...it still has a "gas tank", I'm not complaining, I like it !

Very nice looking bike... I think the 100 mile range and 100mph top speed
is well worded, what would the actual range be if the bike did 100mph
lets say along the Autobahm for example till the battery reached lvc? OR...an afternoon
"sportsbike riding" fast take offs and long country roads? Not knocking it
just curios, i think this is one of the best looking electrics
bikes in production, definitely heading in the right direction IMO

Hey all,

I think its sweet looking, the weight isn't bad considering the sheer volume of batteries those must carry but... did anyone else notice somthing missing?

A kickstank, even a centerstand?

One thing I did note, the liquid cooled engine... so basically a water cooled inrunner with massive reduction?

I may look into getting one of these for next year, I could always add some lipo in a Tank Bag right? Or tack on a tow trailer for camping and load it with LiPo?

One of the key benefits of a motorcycle vs. an otherwise similar on paper scooter is the ability to grip the tank with one's knees. It's a functional thing besides making the bike look more normal.

Love it!

However, I would probably get my arse kicked if I had one of those. I'd be too tempted to put fake exhaust pipes on each side to house subwoofers. Then I'd play an MP3 of a 45 degree V-twin and ride up to a biker bar. For the crotch rocket set, just throw in the sound of a 'Busa and press on.

In reality, I really like the bike--finally, an electric motorcycle that can do highways/interstates with enough thrust to battle traffic and enough range to last a day or three. Throw in the Stealth Bomber from Australia in on it and my wife will become unhinged.

OMG that thing is gorgeous and affordable. I love Brammo's business model. They make a souped up Ebike and then ramp up to motorcycle. Very well done. This is the real deal.

Exactly. This is why the zero's 'tank' area is a big fail.. put the two side by side and you'll see what I mean. It just looks wrong.

I want one too, but at 14k I'd want a BMW 1000RR a heck of a lot more.. they're almost there tho. What are the current green incentives?

Nice, it says to the chicks I'm green and badass 8) . They eat it up with a spoon.

If you are in CA, I bet you could get it for a final price of just about 7 grand! The incentives here are Huge! I have been looking into the Enertia and the Zero DS, and both of them will knock off like 3-4 grand and the higher price of this one, just makes the savings bigger, as it tax incentives mostly. You actually get the WHOLE sales tax back and then CARB will send you like 1500 bucks and there are more from the FED too!

As cool as this concept is, to deliver it at the rated specs on the given timeline would be a miracle. I'd love to see it happen, but it looks more like an attempt to "freeze" the market, than an actual realistic product announcement. Just do a quick COG's analysis and you'll see it's next to impossible to make money at the price points they're claiming. I'm not sure they're doing the industry, or themselves, a favor by setting expectations so high...

There looks to be 8 battery cases. so this is probably the 8kW hr version from the roumors I've heard.

So each battery case holds one kWhr. That's one hell of a finished product. They look really compact!

What is the current best battery pack enery density? I was at the Lifebatt site, and they have a new prismatic out. 8.25x12.5x6.5" Energy is given as 12Vx80Ah nominal.

That's only 960Whrs, or not to far from what Brammo has in it's frame. Weight is given as 19# or 152 pounds for the 8 battery 190# for the 10 and a mere 114 for a 6 battery bike.

Man you gotta love this!

I have to agree, it's possible to build such a bike just not at that price point

My thinking is Zero was killing them in sales, eRoehr 'RR' was out, they needed to do something desperate to survive and raise capital
Of course i could be completely wrong and wish them all the success

If the cali incentives are really that good the 6.0 might make a lot sense here for commuting.. So you guys don't think they can deliver it at the 10k? I figured the 60 miles "OR" 100mph thing meant that it would only do like 30miles at reasonable speeds. Like 30 miles at 50mph average in mixed freeway/street riding. Which could actually be fine for the average person..
