Right now I am going to build a hall sensored hub motor by converting a low Kv outrunner, and so far I have considered converting 50 mm outrunners. Has anyone had success from building a hub motor on low Kv 5065 stators? I am thinking of ordering an Alien 5065 90kv (50 mm can) motor so I can take it apart and build a hub motor from the base components. Is this a good idea or should I be going for larger motors and let's say for example: 63 mm cans? I would much prefer a smaller stator as this will result in smaller wheel diameters, but I understand the smaller the stator, the more heat issues will become prevalent. My understanding is that a 5065 outrunner is the smallest feasible size for a hub motor. I could be wrong.
I would like to hear from others who have successfully built hub motors from 50 mm can outrunners.
