can a 48v 1000w controller handle 72v ?

hello guys. i have a 48v 1000w kit from golden motor (sun thing) i wonder , can the controller/engine handle a battery with 72v ?
someone tryed it before ?

The motor can certainly handle it. Don't know about the controller. You'd have to know what caps and fets it has. All the 48V controllers I've seen have 63V caps and fets not much higher which would make them not capable of using a 72V battery pack. OTOH, you can get a controller capable of up to 100V for about $35 shipped.

72V is actually 88V. many of the mosfets won't take that stress either along with the caps. you also have to adjust the input power resistor so the voltage regulator can handle the voltage. knuckles started some good threads on this very subject. and my 72V upgrade of the 36V infineon controller thread.

Some crytalyte controllers have a 72v capability, but I never read of GM 48v ones being able to take more than 48v. The actual upper limit is likely to be the 63v capacitors inside, so 63v fully charged is as high as you can go. Some 48v lifepo4 batteries come off the charger at about 59-60v. If you use RC lipo, 15s is 63v fully charged.

So you'll just have to get a new controller for 72v. Or make it into one.
