on that hybrid delivery platform, i noticed three large conductors running up to the motor built into the flywheel bell housing.

do you know if that is a brushless DC motor they are using for the electric assist? with those cables carrying the phase currents?

I like the fairing on that homebuilt trike. It must get pretty hot in summer though.

YPedal MaNz pants will get tight in the crotch when he sees that pic, he will be
off in search of a 12in rear wheel for his e-bikes to keep up  :p

Cheers for the pics...have downloaded the vids off to watch them now :)

p.s I have a good mate that lives in Canberra loves the place, i went there...i dont think the language is appropriate
so i wont tell you what i thought of our nations capital :p

Yeah, without me knowing it my camera video settings were in "postage stamp" mode at the time i shot them. Sux ballz ay.

I'll get more video in high res soon though. Im going riding with "toolman2" and his mate probably next week. Off-road single track included.

"While the hybrid layout is a new development, the individual components in it are all proven designs. The small, efficient, 123 hp turbocharged diesel engine is the same one utilized in conventional medium-duty truck service in Japan for several years. This proven diesel is coupled to an ultraslim 47 hp brushless permanent-magnet synchronous electric motor/generator. It, too, has been field-proven in a number of applications. And, finally, power from both the diesel and electric drives is carried through a Mitsubishi Fuso Inomat II automated mechanical transmission similar to the ones that have been used in Fuso Class 8 trucks for a decade. Together, these proven components form the drivetrain of the Canter Eco Hybrid."

your joking, i live in Canberra and i still missed it!

at least i was in hospital at the time or i would be even more pissed off... they hold this thing annually? coz i will have one to show next year, next week hopefully.

Toolman knows how to build a frockbike!

That magic pie is the hub to start with IMHO, and he did everything right for performance with a frock setup.

Like the frame remodels. Like the big motorcycle rear tires. I bet the smaller wheel works great, but I wonder how much it affects the rake angle of the forks. Frames built specially for this kind of wheel gemometry would be great, with big battery spaces.

I'd love to see a guy like Hal get em into real production. Love to see me have the money to buy one then too. I keep eying the 150 cc chinese dirtbike in pep boys. Be cool to take the thing, sell off the motor, and weld up a whole new center section. But mo money than I have.

thanks luke, ive been a fan of your work for a while -no need to explain to you guys why the small wheel

the pie puts out over 100nm on 2800w in so its got a chance of getting off the mark, also i never wrote it up but i did get to 100kph on this bike.
i ran it on 145v 38a, over 5kw in, it would hold about 88kph on a flat and 100 down a mild hill -it made the pie hot but ok :D
and the rake is still std dogman, i just raised the rear suspension to compensate.

the power slides arnet me, thats a works rider (my buddy used to be a downhill champ, and has taken quite well to the bike) others less so as there have now been 3 hospital runs -looking forward to a catch up and ride boostjuice, and fear not our test track is wisely positioned 1km from the emergency ward.

ive also got a fine video of a mate stacking it with a good knee gash but its 28mb -so if anyone has the technology i can try send it to post up.

Canberra is possibly the straightest (and most boring) place on the planet, but i was massively impressed with what we got away with on Saturday with nothing but high fives from the organisers, no shit ive been disqualified from a rally for less by the motorsport world here -seems so odd that i now gravitate towards ev's to get away with more??

And oddily the pr0n capital of Australia ...i wonder if thats why our Nations Leader are also situated in Canberra

If you want to upload your file https://www.yousendit.com/ here use my addy aussiejester@iinet.com.au i'll download it convert it and up it to youtube and linkz it here for you if you like... Its really not hard to up to youtube though 28mb is very small in video terms.

you had any problems with the cops toolman/bluejuice? people in general dont seem to care if you jump into an empty dirt carpark and bust handbrakes for 30 mins in my experience...

no real issues as yet thankfully and thats daily use for a few years now, one time the cops asked how many cc's they were -difficult question and you probly shouldn't laugh while answering :?
and yep thanks kim the file has been sent your way in high def, be good to show to all, its quite funny, a moto mate thought he would show us how monos are done, and stacks..

he carried on undeterred and the blood and torn jeans are from the stack 3 seconds before the actual vid starts, its me laughing like a witch filming.

ok i maby get it kim? (below) but it expires soon and should be downsized? -dunno but its sent to your emial kim, thanks.

Those bikes look like a whole lotta fun an easy pick up the front wheel, are there any vids of a bit of dirt bashing?
My bro lives in canberra, I wonder if I could tie in an event like this and the summernats

edit: no Ive just realized summernats is in january hence it's title DOH!

That's better, "the crowd was appalled by the sight of no blood." (From the Magic Christian)

Totally understand the small wheel, but when I did something similar, It totally messed up the handling of the bike, because the front got tall and changed the rake angle too much.

So I wondered what, if anything you did to fix that. Just a matter of using a longer shock on the rear? My bike was hardtail, so I couldn't make any adjustments.

hehe.. yep. the small wheel high voltage hubs are excellent setups !.. Steve Head was the Pioneer of it all ( I still have his old dual speed Dirt Monkey videos, wonder if he'd be ok with me loading them to youtube )

The X5's pull like mad, but the 4 series are much lighter and this makes a big different off-road.. , i'm running 100v right now and am going to 125 over winter for next season.

Those magic pies getting warm ? or really HOT when pulling max amps at low speed ?

yeeees well thats a debate i think i could easily win if the judges had any sense of style YPedal MaN...no offense to toolman2 it does perform reasonably well but the bike looks totally ridiculous with the odd size wheels IMHO, does one also pop on a red rubber nose, over size shoes and a clown suit when you take it out? .. I am now certain when one buys a frock motor they lose all sense of what looks right, i can support this claim if required with copious amounts of odd sized wheeled frock powered e-bikes covered with duct tape, your guys are soooo high tech hats off to ya i'm just waiting for the first 200v powered frock bike towing a trailer with batteries in it running a 8in rear wheel...;-S  :p

This from the 20/24 chopper builder.....

20/26 is too radical ( I tried .. and i agree it looked all wrong ) but 20/24 on a full suspension works just fine, the added rake keeps things stable at high speed, and i'm sure frames vary but my norco can be leaned sideways at 50 km/h on dry pave no problems at all.. 8)

I like the look! Kinda like the outlaw/sprintcar version of E-bikes. I may try one for my grandkid with an old Walbike Avalon and either a 16" or 20" rear brushed hub.

I agree it is a good idea in theory to raise EV awareness....however...
The vast majority of petrol-headed bogans that frequent Summernats would get angry if anyone tried to tie-in EV's to their hi-octane-throb-fest.
I reckon it would take an appearance by killacycle or Plasmaboy to actually get into their thick skulls that all EV's aren't all "slow, boring and lacking in passion", otherwise i can picture being booed at/spat at off the podium unless the contraption actually outperformed the vast majority of the petrol bikes/cars there.

Typical Summernats crowds V V V

PS: No offence to Kim. We all know he's a bogan who loves petrol power over electric, however we forgive him as he is open minded toward EV's/E-bikes

i moved the top shock mount rearward and lower to raise the bike 4" and back to exact std height and rake etc, the small wheel then doesn't seem to matter much, it fact i kinda like the sturdy little moto knobbys that are $30 each and never puncture.
and yes kim, thanks for mentioning that, its nice to get offers of extra work when the circus comes to town..
and mates saying who's this clown? etc.

the pie seems to take 3000w in the bush (hard singletracks) pretty well and stay under 150c winding temp, or 5000w on the road at up to 80kph seems to max them out temp wise, pretty good seeing as they are meant for 250-1000w std. but dont worry i know rc motors can (and will) kick arse and have some biulds on the go, its just hard so far to beat the simple/reliable hub setup under lots of hard use in the bush without any maintenance or breakdowns for years.

and yep keen for rides with all dingoman/boostjuice etc, send a pm and we'll go, thanks kim for sorting the vid, and ill get some off road footage up real soon.

HAHA was just funnin' with ya buddy no harm meant ;) function over appearance is
the shot and yours sure does function :)

And as i have told you now several times YPedal man the chopper was built with that wheelset in mind all choppers have larger front wheels MTB on the other hand don't my absent minded friend ;) :p Why you have gone with it AND a double stage reduction is still beyond me BUT long as your happy with the look which you are it matyers not what i or anyone else thinks :) Have a good weekend fellas ...

Definitely a petrol head thing still an event I would want to go to and the EV festival and can stay at the brothers house,

Although I think if the likes of white zombie, killacycle and other high power ev show up they will get respect cause of their high torque at low rpm and probably kick some butt at it too

cheers
