changing connectors from the hub

Hi,
I have these connectors coming out of an old hub. I want to change it into Anderson and JST-SM connectors to work with new controller. How do I know which pin goes into which order. Is there a way to test? Do I rely on the colors ?

Not sure I understand but basically, of the small 5 wire bunch I just need to get the +(red) and - (black) right. The other 3 small wire I hook up however I want. Then I test the 3 big wires for the correct combination?

Edit: if wrong direction I'll just flip the wheel, it's a front hub. Right?

If the motor runs right with the old connectors, just make sure you connect the wires the same way with whatever new connectors you decide to use.
