I did a search and couldn't find this but has anyone bought batteries from ebay seller

power_battery_a123

the batteries seem inexpensive. are they bad, good, average?

stick with Li Ping..... he has proven himself reliable and has a good product.... go to his site ping battery you save money.... i have his 36v 12a.... had a bad bms...he replaced it

All of you guys who say not to buy anything else but Ping should realize what that does to the battery market. I understand that nobody wants to be a guinea pig being the first one to drop several $100 on a big ass battery from China, but the only way to get the prices down is to increase competition among vendors! If everybody tells everybody not to buy from anyone but Ping, the market will take even longer to grow than it already has been.

I paid $0.74/Wh for my Headway cells right around when they were starting to pick up steam.
They turned out to be winners, for outpacing the Ping packs, for less money.

Just my $0.02 :)

You don't hear us bashing headway much, but you do see us be very skeptical of the latest seller of 18650 packs on ebay. Once somebody with a decent offering shows up, Like high tech bikes, or ebikekit, you see us do some supporting. Sure somebody had to be the guinea pig on pingbattery too. But you don't see us telling people, yeah, this new guy is ok when we don't know. yeah, it's ok for you to risk your several hundred bucks, I never heard of this guy, but go ahead. So just what are we supposed to tell people when they ask? We point em to people who earned our endorsement. If a less expensive round cell pack is what you want, cammycc has a good customer service reputation among the sellers of that type of pack.

Doing business with poor business forks or dishonest business folks is not going to drive the price of batteries down.

I took a risk and bought one of those 18650 packs from jimmywu and got burned. After looking at other sellers on ebay. My impression is that most if not all of the 18650 packs are coming from the same source. When I looked at feedback of various vendors, many of the 100% feedbacks was based on some low cost item unrelated to batteries. There are some eBay folks trying to do good business, but there are many who are not.

Exactly why our approved vendor list is so short. I actually heard from a guy the other day who was very happy with his jimmywu packs, yup two of em. I bet he'd sing a different song if he'd had to deal with mr lau about a problem. I still wonder myself if there isn't two sources for those 18650 packs, one the passed inspection source, and the other the defect pile.

so no one has actually bought bad batteries from this guy, we just assume they're bad.

No, we simply have no information to base a recomendation on, thats not calling him bad. But here is what I will, and have called him bad for before. Would you trust a vendor who calls himself A123, when he does not sell packs made from A123 batteries? Bear in mind that there is a vendor with a bad track record on ebay. He charges his name often, and at least half the seller names have combinations of letters and numbers or words and numbers. Knowing this particular vendor is out there, and knowing he sells under numerous names, we can only recomend those vendors we have heard are ok from a reputable member of the sphere. My personal list is Headway, Ping, Hightech bikes, Ebike kit , Cammycc, in no particular order. In general, each vendor offers a different type of cell, so the choice is made not so much on price as by what discharge rate or size you need. This is a long list of good vendors compared to last spring, when it was just ping.

thanks for that list. i looked at cammycc and the prices from that seller are the same as the prices from this a123 guy. so if we know that cammycc is reputable, i'll order from that person. 36v 15AH lifepo4 for about 400 shipped. sounds pretty reasonable.
