Chrysler showcases electric car concepts

I would buy that on looks alone looks like a re-sized Viper veeeery sexy, one for the younger market i guess...On the website it says a Quartet of cars but only pictures 3 of them i want to see the 4th ;)

I would of thought the big American companies would be working harder towards
creating cars and perfecting them to run on 100% renewable bio diesel. Even if
electric cars could travel over a 100km per charge at 100km/hr it isnt going to
be of use to the masses..the infrastructure is already in place
for bio fuels, thought it would make more sense to head in that direction.
Electric cars IMO will only be any good as inner city commuters or as a second
car to do the shopping and take the kids to school. Here In Australia with the
large distance between places for example the closest next city to Perth is
Bunbury its over 200km away...Geraldton is over 400 kilometers away...an
electric simply wont cut it unless its capable of 300-400 kilometers a charge
at 120km/hr <--speed limit on our highways. Bicycles and possibly motorcycles
are viable as we have seen here for short commutes i simply
cant see a person paying the same price for an electric car as they would
for a renewable fuel powered car that will run more than 3-4 times the distance
then take 2 minutes to fill before doing it all again unless it is as i mentioned
before, a second family car for inner city use or local errands shopping dropping
kids off at school etc...Electric battery technology would have to advance a
hell of alot on the best we have today before i would even entertain the
thought of buying an electric car and even then, i doubt i would.

Have you seen the hydrogen/electric hybrid Honda have built? electricity is
generated by a fuel-cell stack that is in the car... it was on TopGear few eps
back James May took it for a drive in America? I forget the name of it though...
was better looking thana Toyota Prius thats for sure LoL what an UGLY car they are ;-S

I like the old Porche...would still prefer the Viper look though they are just a
mean looking veeeehicle...

EDIT: heres the Honda i mentioned

My prediction is that the less regulated Chinese will pioneer mass production of electric-only cars, then pay off Washington (cheap to do) and own the USA EV market. At that point in time the cars will probably be manufactured in India or Africa.

I could be wrong..i often am, but i don't think the electric movement will be advanced alot by the
European manufacturers, with the Autobahns over there you would be a danger to the other road users in
an electric, there are no speed limits on the Autobahns (they do recommend 130km/hr you would be pas like your standing still if you only did 130 though hehehe) cars MUST be able to travel at least 60km/hr
So i would prooobably count any of the German Manufacturers out...Italians hehehe you jest moving on...
England...possibly from one of the smaller car manufactuers but doubtful. If a 'good' electric car
is made i think it will be from Japan, Toyota and Honda already have electrics, these will be
improved on as technology improves i guess, i still think the answer isn't electric for cars not now anywayz...renewable bio fuels IMO is the rigfht direction...just my opinion. As you say to nutsandnbolts " I honestly think that big oil and big auto are in bed together, it's a faustian deal for auto over here. The cars with best gas mileage aren't even for sale in this market! "
As Long this stays like it is the longer it will be before any GREAT breakthroughs are released for public to buy, of course the oil companies wont want economical cars they would prefer everyone had cars that did 4mpg hahaha...

Germany also is well known for its engineering capabilities.

OH i couldn't agree more clever fellas the Germans, thats why i tend to think they wont go the electric car route ...
(not FULL electric i'm talking about here ... hybrid quite possibly)
I would imagine diesel cars with MEGA performance is what we will be seeing more of in the very near
future...they already do Diesel Mercedes hehe Lewis Hamilton (World Champion F1 driver drives one :-| )
BMW also offer diesel cars. If i recall correctly the recent winner of Lemans 24hour race was Audi? it was a diesel powered car so
they can be fast as well as economical.

could you imagine the Germans/Italians using hybrid electric as a performance booster? Have all the muscle of their performance cars, and add electric boost for faster off the line? Or to improve 30-60 times?

^Yes, using an integrated starter/alternator/boost-motor with high discharge current lithium ion batteries.

Not so silly ...anyone here as mad keen on Formula One as me? This 2009 season all cars must have a KERS (kinetic energy recovery system installed on the cars. With these fellas on the job we will see some pretty exciting stuff come out i think...all of which has the ability to filter down to commercial car use. Heres a lil of the article regarding the KERS -->

Is Formula One racing out of step with an auto industry whose greatest innovations have been in the area of fuel economy? Maybe so, but not for long. The sport's governing body is pushing to introduce hybrid-drive systems in competitive racecars, beginning in the 2009 season. That's when F1 will require teams to install a kinetic energy recovery system (KERS), which uses a rapidly spinning flywheel to store a decelerating vehicle’s kinetic energy, which would otherwise be wasted, and channel it back to the car's drive system. The sanctioning group, Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA), has defined the amount of energy recovery for the 2009 season as 400 kilojoules per lap, giving the driver an extra 80 horsepower over a period of 6.67 seconds. We asked Adrian Moore, Technical Director of Xtrac a few questions about the Formula One KERS system the company developed with partner firms Flybrid and Torotrak.

Full article can be veiwed here does mention batteries can be used instead of a flywheel to store the energy...be interesting to see which teams go with what come the start of the season...im all excited I loves my F1 and MotoGP racing been a tradgic addict since i was a little tacker LoL

The powers that be are also looking at switching the F1 cars to biofuel in the form of ethonol same as that silly lookin' round in circle racing you Amercians like...uhm NASCAR? has been using since the 2007 season.

Lots of EV talk from all over, very little on the actual market ...

yeah that's it ain't it.... im all for more electrics don't get me wrong be great to see some of the companies getting into it...

Kim :)

I really like the way you think!

Doc

Dunno if you North Americans get Top Gear UK ?

I fired off a quick email showing them 'My Vision' for Chrysler's future, One of the TG presenters, James May
actually ownz a Fiat Panda NOT just FOR SHOW either which might surprise some! he actually drives it :-|
maybe they will be so kind to forward it to the powers that be at 'ChryFiat' :p hehehe
