French automaker Citroën has unveiled the Ami, a tiny electric car that's designed from the outset to be as cheap as possible. The car isn't very fast and it looks a bit like a washing machine, but it only costs €6,000, or the equivalent of about $6,600.
It would be hard to get a good used car at that price,
Cheap as possible is not good. 6,000 euros is $6500usd is $8800cdn
Don't frocking tell me there are no good used cars for that kinda doe, dont be silly.
1999-2003 VW Jetta Diesel for $2000-$3000 nets 45-55mpg, rebuilt crate engine probably costs $1500-$2000 to last 500,000. Rebuild existing motor probably $1000-$1500.
Any of the 1.6L gasoline varieties would suffice, Chevrolet Cavalier for example.
It has a top speed of just 45 kilometers an hour, roughly equal to 28 miles per hour. It's powered by a 6 kilowatt, or 8 horsepower, electric motor.
So only residential streets, lots of roads here are 60kph so quite useless in any North American city.
Under the laws of these countries, the Ami qualifies as a voiture sans permis (literally "car without license"), or quadricycle, a category of small and slow vehicle that, for purposes of regulation, is treated like a four-wheeled scooter.
Very interesting, no license, no registration, no license plates. It is a Mobility Device! Get a gimp placard and your set!
the Ami has a range of only about 70 kilometers, or 43 miles, per charge. On the plus side, though, it can be fully charged in only three hours using a household electrical outlet.
Not bad, not bad at all. Hit the mall for an hours charge, grab a hair cut for 30 minutes, a coffee for 45 minutes.
esides buying the car, shoppers will also have the option to lease it for €20, the equivalent of $22, per month. It will also be available through Free2Move, a car sharing company operated by Citroën's parent company, PSA, at a cost of €0.26 per minute with a €9.90 monthly subscription, roughly the equivalent of $11.
Damn thats dirt cheap, $30/month for 250 months LOL, 20 yrs or so.
For that kind of money, a $3000 motorcycle would suffice, a $2000 ebike with a huge battery to get you places and $1000 to invest.
