hey guys,
so i recently had this idea, instead of building an ebike from scratch. frame, components, motor ect.....
how about i just buy a thumpstar, rip out the motor and related parts, strip it down to bare and just build and add what i need on top op that?

it will most definatley save me alot of money since im not buying any downhill components.
my build plan is something like the stealth bikes, so since its going to look similar to a motorbike, why dont i just start with 1. :)

anybody had this idea or has already done this? would love to get some input on it.

cheers

bruce

Thumpstars look pretty tiny so it may be hard to fit many batteries on it. You may have to install peddles too if you are going for any kind of range. Looks better for ripping around a race track on than attempting to pass it off as a "bicycle" and ripping down national forest trails, bicycle paths and sidewalks, but it definitely looks doable

motoped is more stealth-like,

if u want to keep it small, people have build rc pitbikes on here...
and there are those razor mx-650 also...

Here is a video of me riding the Thumpstar I converted to electric. It still runs great, I rebuilt it once with new motors, and it has been going for about a year on the new set. I use 2, 6374 170 (old) or 200kv (new) motors. It goes 28mph, 6s 40ah 20c HK lipo. The box I built can hold 6s 80ah, I never want to ride it that long. I like the 40ah pack more, because the weight savings of about 17-18lbs.

kool bike......
i 4got to add the specs that i want to build. 1st, the bike i want to use isnt a 125cc, its a 250cc.

my plans are to throw in a hpm5000b golden motor. (5kw rated) i will most likely push over 10kw in it for acceleration.
i want to put pedals on it only to make it look like a bicycle and be legal to ride on the rd.
here in australia if it aint got pedals, cops will be on ya for sure......
another thing is, if i do go through with it, by the end of it, it wont look like a motorbike anymore.

Forget the pedals, it will not look remotely like it is a road legal bicycle and it will not be.
Police will (rightly) just see an unlicenced motorcycle.

Just use it as a dirt bike off road and it should be a blast.

my plan will be to strip is down to bare...... throw on a bicycle seat. and remove anything that looks like its for a motobike.
the whole point on putting on some pedals is so i can ride it like a bicycle. if i couldnt ride it on the rd as a bicycle i might aswell leave it as is and use it as a trail bike. :)

i think if you strip it down enough you can make it look sorta like a bicycle......
