Ok so the first controller wasn't bad, I had a cold solder joint. I really need to invest in a higher wattage iron. The solder error wasn't evident until I started to take it apart to send it back.
I played with the controller settings more and the "normal" start mode works much better than soft or very soft. Remember if you get these parts to set HIGH timing.
Just fyi, If you have a controller connected with just two phases it draws extreme current and will melt the battery wires and displace magnets in a cheap motor. A fuse is recommended
Now I just need to build my bracket and get the motor mounted. Oh I also need to drill out the 20th pulley to 10mm, it is currently 8mm.
