Since Two other threads about the Corona Virus got Ugly , thereby rightfully getting locked ... This thread is just for ,

1) Links to official reports from your country( Just include one Agency for your country )
And
2) Just report on what is happening in your area , better yet within apx. 60 or so miles / 100 Km's , around your area/town/city in which you live .

No Politics or Hate ...
Mod's Please delete any other post's that troll this thread .

This page by the CDC is updated each day ( Monday-Friday ) around Noon time .

Click on the " Reload this Page " each day to see the current day's numbers .

Wow !..beware..
There is some badly misleading graphics in there .!
An initial look suggests that the number of cases are are falling rapidly.
Why do they post up numbers for the most recent tests that are known to be incomplete ?

That Graph you say is confusing at the point it looks to go down they say ...
" Illnesses that began during this time may not yet be reported "
Why they do it that way you will have to ask them .

I just look at two figures , I will make my own graph on these two items each month or week .
1) Total number of cases
2) Total number of Death's

For the last three days of reporting those two numbers are going up each day .

Anyway , I would like this thread to be mostly people reporting on what is happening where they live as to , can they go out, for what can they go out, what is or is not in the local stores, etc.

I will report in a few days as to what is happening in my area. I think it too soon to do that now as today was the first day of "Sheltering in Place" , with the exceptions of shopping for necessary items , Going to or from Work , Take out Food , Going to Dr. appointments or exercising outside like walking or bike riding.
( The County of Santa Clara is trying to get people to call their Doctor instead of going to the Doctor's office )

Just keep it to opinions about the panic-demic, and not opinions about each other folks. That's why the other threads got locked. It was turning into a personal fight.

I did delete a few things, because they were triggering the fight, not because I questioned the statements. If its causing the fight, and getting quoted along with the personal attack, we have to delete.

So just think a bit before you hit post. Good info is helpful, starting a fight is not. Go start a thread in toxic if you must. Take it to toxic if you want to quote a post and fight about it. It really makes us mods give up on it, when we have to wade through a thread removing a toxic comment, and 8 more quotes of it. Not using the quote will help us keep the thread running.

Toxic is the place to post panic-demic info or conspiracy theories or speculations about its cause.

Any post starts a fight, this thread gets locked. Take it to toxic.

Start typing all caps,, kinda fits the criteria. Post your links and don't fight, its all good. Start having a lively discussion questioning others opinions, its gonna get locked.

Lets have info, not speculations.

All the basic advice for fighting off colds and flu apply. Stuff like take your vitamins, especially C and B12, stay hydrated, sleep if you can. If its so bad you can't eat, just drink the chicken soup broth.

To not get it, don't pack into the bar, the gym, or work. Wash your hands after the store. Don't eat a burger that got coughed on by some nearly immune teen.

Orange County (CA) just banned all outside group meetings except for essential purposes. I went for a solo off road ride yesterday at an area that is usually empty, but was fairly crowded since the schools are closed and plenty of people out of work. Will need to be more creative to ride today. The governor stated that he is of the opinion that LA schools are done for this school year. Who didn't expect that?
IMO, for the mods, how about banning anyone that is argumentative? This could be an excellent resource if individuals stick to official facts, not wild, unsubstantiated conjecture and personal opinions or bilge from some outer space individual.

Wednesday March 18th , I went out again today to find food that was sold out yesterday.

Plenty of people at two of the stores I go to for food.

Got to Trader Joe's at 9:30 am and by then most of the shelf's were again empty.
They only allow 10 or so people at a time in the store . Sign at front entrance said
you can only buy 2 of any one item . and you can only fill up one shopping cart .
Again today all out of all vitamin c products, and all rice bags of any kind of rice . This by 9:30 am .
Got a few things frozen and 2 boxes of cereal .

Then went to Safeway, they were out of the two Items that I usually buy there.
I did not bother to walk around to look at half or more than half empty shelf's.

Not many people driving around, it looked like even more people at the food stores than normal for a week day morning.

It is OK to go out for exercise but for most of us Californian's , the weather is too cold and the forecast is for Rain for 5 out of the next 7 days in my area of the State.

All the better right, too cold, too rainy then stay in your home except for food. Its hard to not be going about the normal daily activities, even with everything shut down, its still nice to get out and ride I know.

I assumed NYC was allowing people out for exercise solely because Deblas didn't want to lose his gym privileges

BTW, this almost goes without saying, but it was an isolated article on a bike site that Italy and Spain have banned all recreational bike riding. Also, cold here (for CA), but will try to get out today since rain is imminent.

19 cases confirmed in Ks. Schools shut rest of the yr. Casinos shut. Textron furloughed 7000 people. Approx.
I drive dump truck. Still working. Traffic is half .. Or more.. More I have not mentioned or heard about. Stores are out of tp , alcohol, peroxide, etc. Guy at liquor store sold more everclear than ever. Stocked up on dog food and found 91 % alcohol Sunday.
Made sanitizer with Aloe we had at home..

...and the homeless seemed to have disappeared from the newton area.
With so many places closed and everyone practicing social distancing their usual panhandling methods have been ineffective. When my wife was still taking transit to work she said the homeless had moved into the trains and were begging there.

Was a jib tech lady walking down the street next to my house yesterday straight hacking up a lung as she wheezed down the street. I imagine this has hit just about everyone in that community by now.

jib tech?

Jib tech. Aka consumer of crystal methamphetamine.

Might be a great way to take the mind off whats happening. I know weed shops are doing brisk business, and probably more robberies of said weed stores too. One just happened a week ago, a new restaurant opened, guys traveled the world taken out by some hoodlums robbing a weed store through his new restaurant.

Staying on topic

Marijuana sales ‘on fire’ as demand spikes amid coronavirus outbreak

Here is a LInk to a local TV station , Channel 7 news .

https://abc7news.com/health/coronavirus ... s/5906450/

On Channel 5 news tonight they said that there are 8 deaths in Santa Clara County,

There are 8 countries in the San Francisco Bay area , in all 8 counties 10 death's
However
8 of those deaths were in Santa Clara County, ( Which is also known as Silicon Valley )

What life is like for me/my area :

Stores are as busy as the busyist days before the Covid-19 Panic here in California

Even though in Santa Clara County there is a " Shelter in Place " order , We can go out for a number of reasons
one of them to get necessary food items.
One store still 40% empty shelf's despite getting trucks in each night with supply's .
The other store ( Safeway ) is so big I only go to the area where I buy 2 items and then get out quick.
Still out of one item , but was able to get the other item after several days of it being out of stock.

The Streets are getting a little less traffic each day , except for the areas where there are food stores and pharmacies . Longest line of people in the Pharmacy I went into today. One cashier said out loud so that all customers could hear her , " Wonder when the Police are going to stop all the people from going out shopping "

Still large amounts of people shopping for food, one store had people line up and only let about 10-20 in the store at a time. Also that store will only allow you to buy 2 of any one item, and only 1 shopping cart full of food. Still no rice at that store, I asked cashier when the last time she saw rice and she said 2 weeks ago.
We have some people Hoarding Rice in my area.

Yesterday the Bike/Walking Path had more people on it than on a Sunny Summer Sunday . Meaning Allot of people.
I am seeing more families together over the last few days, out walking .

Other than the Food Shopping areas , there is a Calmness in the Air, just like the day's / week after the 911 attack's .
Calmness feeling , a few people are stressed out , but many people being nice to each other , and talking to people they do not know, much more than usual .
When I talk to people there is plenty of optimism , more than usual both on my part and on theirs .
But then I am in a much less populated area than most of the rest of the S.F. Bay Area.
High Density Places like SF, and San Jose, must have massive amounts of stress in their Populations.

Weather is cool enough to go out and exercise , and still spring so it is still green around here.

Not practising social distancing? You could be fined up to $1K and businesses up to $500K

Whats the legal distance your suppose to be "distanced" because smoking is 10' from a door.

Coronavirus: Man arrested on Isle of Man for failing to self-isolate
Police on the British crown dependency said the man, reported to be 26, was arrested after failing to stick to self-isolation laws and is in a specially-cleaned area.
Failure to do so could result in a prison sentence or a £10,000 fine.

Costa Rica has acted fairly quickly even with only 87 confirmed cases and 1 death (an older diabetic who was already quite sick). The Ministry of Health posted a notice at all smaller shops stating that only 3 customers are allowed inside at a time (I'm not sure about the rules for larger stores). Almost all establishments provide extra sanitizing measures...things like free gel and wipes at entrances, extra steps by employees (masks, gloves, even spraying shopping cart handles with disinfectant), even at my bank's money machines an employee is assigned to quite frequently clean all the surfaces of the enclosures.

Traffic has been way down all week due to all schools and many offices being closed and daily cell phone messages to all suggesting that people go out of their houses only as necessary.

Neighborhoods with a confirmed case are entirely quarantined rapidly with police stationed at the entrance to prevent exit. Food or pharmacy orders are by delivery only.

Our first case was less than 2 weeks ago, so only time will tell if it's an over-reaction or not.

Australia.
9 Deaths
1000 Confirmed Cases.
115,000 tests completed.
25m population.

EDIT: Major correction..
That should read 115,000 tests completed , not 15,000 !
Which means less than 1% infection rate !
And this in a country where this very week there have been 3 cruise ships unloading international passengers in Sydney city center without any testing !

Here in the UK as a whole approaching 200 deaths, small compared to the annual FLU death rate or 12k - 20k.
About 92k - 93k tested but no overall mass testing only for those suspected, general though if unwell in the slightest everyone is being asked to self isolate. The worrying trend is likely to be the youth as they like to go out in groups and they will likely be a major cause of infection spread.

All meeting places to close down from last night no, restaurants, pubs, clubs, leisure, facilities, churches etc ,etc.
Though one may go food shopping where you can stand shoulder to should with many tens of other persons.
All sporting fixtures suspended for now, though footy may be restarted behind closed doors to finish the season off as Euro 2020 has been cancelled till next year.

Most people being asked to work from home or not working at all, BJ/Government have said they will support workers wages by 80% for 12 weeks, there is an upper wage limit of 2.5k a month I think.

London is the biggest centre of the out break so looks like the city will locked down any day soon.
Across the country no ban on peeps going for a walk /taking the dog out or cycle riding as long as no large groups are involved.
I shall carry on riding as it is my main transport to work ( key worker online food delivery driver) and for errand and recreational well being. Also need to look after my livestock ( Bee colonies) to guard against starvation and disease.

News just said that six hundred someodd people died in Italy within the past day. (Sorry for the someodd, my eyes glazed over when I heard six hundred and I missed it.)
