Dear ebike experts,

I am I am writing to get your thoughts on an ebike build. I am a newbie and have been researching this night and day for several months. I am considering the H40 cruiser crystalyte motor that ebikessf is offering. I wanted to know if anyone on here can tell me the difference between the crystalyte H40 motor and the leafbike motor listed in the link below. They look very similar.

http://www.leafbike.com/products/e-bike-hub-motor/gearless-20-24-26-700c-28-inch/new-48v-1000w-rear-spoke-hub-motor-electric-bike-motor-871.html

Is the leafbike motor the 2013 nine continent version of the crystalyte H40 motor?

Furthermore, the following is the bike and list of components that I am considering.

Bike: sixthreezero in the barrel beach cruiser, single speed. http://www.sixthreezero.com/Men-s-Beach-Cruiser-Bicycles-p/itb-black-1sp.htm, I plan to design a nice custom small triangle battery frame below the upper bar of the bike frame.

Motor: either the crystalyte H40 or the leafbike motor in the link above. 48V 1000Watt.

Battery: 63 volt/12.5AH/60amp continuous. Li-NMC http://www.hi-powercycles.com/product.sc?productId=29&categoryId=5.

Controller: Lyen/12 mosfet/4110 infenion/programmed for 63 volt and 60 amp http://endless-sphere.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=17683

I want to be able to go 30 mph comfortably for 20 to 30 miles. I want to be able to hit 38 to 40 mph every now and then just for kicks.

Let me know what you guys think. Sorry if this is posted in the wrong area.

Best,
Brossman

Please go to the User Control Panel, select Profile, and then enter your city, state/province, and country into the Location field (country minimum) and save it. This will help people help you. Example: Wylie, TX, USA. Without knowing what country you are in it's hard to make any recommendations. Thank you.

No, that leafbike motor isn't comparable to a motor with a 40mm stator, but per $ it's at least twice the value of the Xlyte. Depending on your weight and terrain either is probably capable of the performance you want, but 40mph may be asking a bit much of a 12fet controller.

Consider a FS bike with big seat and a 20-30ah (1000-1500wh) 72V battery pack.
I could probably come close to 20 miles at 30mph with mine, but probably not before getting stopped by the cops at that speed.

1st problem, that single speed coasterbrake bike, with no provisions for either adding a front or rear disk brake. The dropout spacing is too narrow for a hub motor to even fit, and the design isn't going to be safe or stable above 30.

2nd, that battery is only about half the capacity you'll need for the speed and distance you want.

3rd problem, leafbike isn't a reputable vendor. Off the top of my head, I remember iperov, a member here has had some issues with them.

Yeah, that motor looks to be a Nine continents or one of the clones. Most reputable vendors call that a 500 watt motor. They are great motors and it would be fine for what you want, but I'd buy from a better vendor. The 40 series would be overkill, and a total waste with that tiny controller. 100 volts, 100 amps, and a bike frame that can support high power, then yes. Otherwise, the middle ground is the HS35XX series. That's also more motor than you need, but not a bad choice for running at speed.

Clones of a 9C just cracks me up every time someone says it. That's like someone cloning a Lada or a Tata.
