Think you could use something like this on a bike? It looks small enough, and I know from personal experience these type of transmissions make a motor feel REAL strong if they are set up right! I was wondering if anyone has tried something like this for an R/C drive setup??

Yeah I saw that one, very impressive really! I was just wondering if this has been done on a bicycle? I think a CVT would make a great setup for a MTN bike! they have excellent low speed power and still have killer top end since they actually shift on the fly!

I haven't tried it yet, but I would like to. I have designed a couple of belt CVTs but I am sure they won't work as-drawn; if I ever have time to build them (and find all the parts I'll need), they'll likely need major revision to actually work. :)

There have been at least a couple of NuVinci builds, using that CVT rear hub, though I don't remember what motors were used to drive them. The reports have generally been of such high power wastage in the NuVinci (up to a third!) that I would not want to use one, though I once did.

Numberonebikeslover (Naeem) has made a variation on a cone/belt CVT using two rear cassettes and a chain, with one mirroring the other left to right, shifting simultaneously, to run his motor and pedals thru. I'd wanted to try something like that but hadn't figured out quite how to do it; he has and it works, though I don't know if he's got it on his bike yet.
