Cyclone motor rewound

Hi guys,

I'm thinking of rewinding my cyclone 650W motor. Like many others around here, I'm suffering from bad efficiencies at low RPM which causes the motor to overheat. This results of my relatively high system voltage of 43V. Therefore my question is:

Do anybody have a idea how to rewind this motor to archive a higher KV (means lower RPM at certain voltage), or even better did it before?

Best regards,
Manuel

hi mate, have you tried using the AFT cooling fins?they shed heat way quicker with them.

I have disassembled a cyclone in the past and found the stator windings bonded to the inside of the case with some kind of mega adhesive/epoxy. I could not make any inroads in removing it. I think you would destroy the plastic frame in the removal process. I ran my 1200w cyclone for over 10k kms and while at the start i suffered some overheating, I learned that these motors need to spin fast to stay cool.

At the beginning I was conscious of the noise from the gearbox and kept the bike in a high gear to keep the motor revs and thus the noise down but this is the root of the problem. After suffering a couple of high temp cutouts i realised with help of ES I was using the motor wrong. You basically want that motor howling. Think of it like driving an ICE in 1st gear at 50 kph, while an ICE would hate this, electric motors are build for just this type of use.

When I changed my style of use I never hit high temp cutout again and I never used cooling fins but rode pretty hard. It may be possible to rewind but it will break your heart doing it and IMO is not needed.

Good luck
Tony

that s definitely true for every electric motor. unfortunately my gear is at its limit...

btw there is one guy who managed to get the stator out of the housing. but the method was rather brutal.

thanks,
manuel
