I actually did not mean to offend even Dale in his thread wanting a review of his bikes.

I had meant my comment to be taken as facetious even to the original poster. I will admit it was a bit strong worded.

I know a lot of that does not come thru the keyboard so If I pissed you off or anyone else I apologize.

I feel like this board is about facts and people give it straight. If you ask a worthwhile question someone is going to give you the honest truth.

So calling amp hours amps is misleading and leads to confusion.

I googled the web site after I could not find my earlier post and the following summed it up well.

I dont' think you offended anyone.

I think that most people that understand why the terminology differences are important agree with you. :)

Unfortunately many dealers / sellers of stuff like this seem to have little idea what they are selling / how it all works together even at a basic level, and perhaps think that it is better that their buyers don't either, or they think it doesn't matter. Or that it's all too complicated (it is at first look) and that it'll just drive customers away if they have what looks like confusing info up there. (that's a common marketing thing not just in EVs).

It's better to educate the customers on the stuff first, and then help them pick the right things for them, but that takes a lot more time and individually working with them, which means less sales, or less profits becuase of paying knowledgable help to take care of that for them. Either way, that means less money overall, and so it's less likely to happen with most such dealers.

There are some that take the time, and those are the ones that probably end up with more loyal customers, and stick around, where the others may not, as they end up with unhappy customers who don't bring them other customers in like the loyal ones would have.

Oh, and I wonder if perhaps this should be a General Discussion thread, and retitle it something like what I titled this reply: "Dealer / Vendor / Seller unwillingness to use correct terminology".

Or a nastier tone, more appropriate for OTD: "Just how stupid do dealers think people really are?" :p

edited the below for present situation
BTW, the reason the thread was not publicly visible was at that time it was considered an ad and we were moving such things to the for sale sections. Now everything will be left where it is posted, at least by me.

Thanks Amber.

That makes more sense then myself thinking the thread owner deleting his own thread. Which now that I think about it is probably not possible since there were replies.

I even looked the guy up and sent him an email. I made the comment about deleting his account here which once I reflected did seem a bit rude.

So was just feeling bad about it. Appreciate you clearning it up. Will follow your advice.

No problem.

FWIW, his thread has been moved back to General Discussion, though it's location may change depending on where he decides he wants it, whenever I hear back from him. (he does not reply even when asked to do so specifically so I could help him out, so I don't know how well he's going to do in business; I don't expect he'll talk to his customers any better).

Hi guys,

Thanks ohzee, I wasn't offended particularly. When you start doing online marketing you better have a pretty thick skin. If you can get over having "feelings" then you can use criticism to improve things and do better next time. But thanks for reaching out, I appreciate that.

And Amberwolf, I apologize on my slow answers. The delay comes from my uncertainty. This amp-hour thing threw me for a loop and I was dithering about how to proceed.

Also, I tend to compulsively check my messages on my smartphone while I'm out and about and then not have time (or a keyboard) to answer properly. Bad habit...

I am willing to use the correct terminology. I just have to make sure I have it all right and then get the labels reprinted.

This is true (and also true of forums in general, and moderating them most especially...and mine is not all that thick).

Remember when you are unsure...ask. :)

No problem, but keep in mind for your customers (potential and actual) at least that if they have a way of knowing if their message was read (many email programs/servers can send a "read receipt", for instance), but not answered, they may get a bit bothered by it, or even actively upset if they are having a problem that they feel needs immediate resolution. And remember--in general, every single customer out there thinks they are your ONLY customer, and deserves your absolute full and total attention anytime they want/need it. ;)

(I work in retail, and experience this every day).

If you are not going to have time to answer all questions pretty instantly, your best bet is to put a note to that effect on all methods of contact that you list on your site and on your thread(s) here. People may not read it, but if they do at least they'll know to expect whatever delay you state in the note.

Kinda like having a bunch of phone lines ringing, you gotta put the first one on hold, then go thru all of them and put each of them on hold so they know you are there, at least, and give them a time frame to get back to them that you *know* you can meet, or tell them you don't know when if you're not sure. :/

If one of *them* says they ahve to have an answer by a certain time/day, then it's probably a really good idea to answer in *some* form, even if it's to say you can't answer by then and why, and what else can you do for them, so they don't get mad about being ignored (even if you're not), and go find another place to buy from, or demand a refund if they already bought from you.

If you like you could probably ask around the other people here that sell bikes/etc and find they might be doing these things already (or suffering the consequences if they don't).
