Do I need to fit a fuse with this ebike kit?

Hi, I got the 500W DD Hub motor kit from EM3EV and a 36V 15Ah LifePO4 Battery from Ping. I need to know, should I fit and inline fuse carrier with this kit, if yes, where should it go? Also I need to extend the charging wires and the wires that go to the motor from the battery, does anyone know what rating these wires need to be and what ampage? Thanks

your BMS will provide short circuit protection. if it is shorted on the output of the battery.

so if the controller is shorted the BMS will shut off the current flow with a few microseconds.

if the red power wire from B+ shorts to the battery itself at one of the lower cells then the BMS is out of that circuit and the battery can be damaged or cause a fire.

this is unlikely, but we have seen a fire started when the red wire from B+ to the charger did short to something and caused a fire somehow, so you can use a fuse on that red charging wire, at the B+ connection on the battery terminal. it only has to handle the 5-10 A of the charging current, and not the 50A of discharge current you would need on the output at B+ if you don't use a BMS.
