CAn someone link me up with an idiot guide to controllers please.

I want to learn from the absolute basics of how it all works.

You should read older post on the subject. In the upper right of this page there is a "Google Search" box. Type into that box things like Controller Basics or How Controllers Work. Then read and learn what you can. Tons of info can be gotten this way.
