E-bike fires - the data, the recording and the incoming risk of closure to reputable shops/brands

WIth regard to UPP batteries, I had three of their 36V10AH 30 cell bottle batteries. I took the non samsung pack apart after three years and replaced with Sanyo GA cells,I thought the battery was OK. The spot welds didn't pop off. It was well packed and secure. No chance for cells to sjake loose. The original cells were glued, but I used a round cell form to hold the new Sanyos securely,

Also had UPP Hailong. It was sloppy, Loose BMS harness as delivered. I re-seated it, It did use cell forms, no glued cells. I learned that the Hailoing1-2 has a weak battery cradle mount and the contaccts can corrode. Still, it's a $250 battery,

Notice how it says "poorly built with poor welding to connect the components" in the product safety report above.

Triangle packs, as you've pointed out, hang in canvas bags and are subject to mishandling, Reading amazon US reviews, many of them ripped the bag's velcro mounts off and tumbled to the ground. I suspect mechanical damage contributes to their fails.

Just thnking about a weld breaking. It's not going to sort circuit to another one, But if it lifts, you lose the capacity from the connecting cell. If the pack has sufficient charge, the user can still pull the same current. Overstresses the remaining cells in that group. Maybe with tme, they degrade. Maybe that forms dendrites and you get the internal shorts that lead to thermal runaway, Who knows, If you had 8P-10P and lost half the P's, it cannot be good,

Yes, and also since the triangle battery shape usually doesn't exactly follow the bike's triangle shape they are subject to pinching and/or repetitive banging against any pressure points if not adequately cushioned.

Both very good points but I doubt the UK Government would have only looked at used packs. They would have looked at new packs as well.

magic monday had some deals so I got 4 x 12v 100amp LiFePO4 batterys for 90 each
5KW under 500 with delivery and name lifepower4 units with blue tooth and BMS

boat power not a bike a 22ft water line sail boat style of a local bay boat call a presto centerboarder
she is a cat ketch 2 masts no jib had a 10 hp diesel now replaced by a 2hp outboard

Seems to me comparing the battery requirements of boats vs. bikes is like comparing apples to cows. Size and weight are far more precious on the bikes...
