Picked up an E-GO Bike Lightning

E-Go 01_.jpg

Helped a friend put together and set-up\tune-up his new bike. Was given the E-GO for helping.
Needs work!?
Supposedly ... battery-range is failing-failed.
Best info reputes Samsung LiFePO4 cells are used in the pair of batteries locked into the top bar.

Turns out, 1 contact was bent on one of the 48V 5Ah batteries. Which is very likely responsible for apparent battery degradation! Straightened contact, manually charged both batteries to equality, replaced onto bike ... seems to run great.

PAS

Don't like ...
PAS kicking in as I attempted a U turn, on a narrow street tried to wreck me into the curb!
Do like ...
Programmable assist level limits throttle max speed, "8" limits at ≦ 20mph.
Will likely disconnect or "switch" PAS sensor! Throttle function can operate independent of PAS.

Saw one advertised for cheap on Craigslist (or maybe it was OfferUp) last season. Looked interesting but I figure all the e-bikes for sale without chargers on CL or OU are stolen, so didn't pursue the deal.

What is the general build quality? Components quality? What frame material? Italian design?

Good points:
Seems solid frame, Aluminum
good suspension,
speedometer and
programmable top speed 24 - 20 - 16 etc. mph
trigger shifting
52T chainring
Great street-road tires, better suited to my stretch frame 35mph build tho ... mwah-ha-ha!

Bad points:
14-28T cluster OK for street but could use 34T for off road
No rack for cargo or auxiliary battery
I don't like the PAS, OK for cruising but dangerous for trails etc IMO

on Amazon - ~ $1000

Probable Mxus motor specs

Mode 9 vs Mode 8 ...... Mode 1 for climbing stairs?
e-GO 03.jpg

Will likely limit to the 20mph mode for economy, legality etc

Anyone have better motor Id for Grin Technologies Motor Simulator?

Tracked down battery problem, bikes contact terminals seem shifted to one side, creating poor-intermittent connection for one of the batteries. Major frame intrusion required for adjustment so just shimmed battery contacts for solid contact, also coated everything with dielectric grease to ensure clean contact.

Turns out cells are Samsung Li-ion, not LiFe ...
2600mAh cells, 4p for the advertised 10Ah. Which means I can easily recell from my supply of MJ1s, for 14Ah capacity.
