Transcript of the newscast:

Announcer:
In France, the fashion is for electric bikes; it's a bike re-in forced with a battery, it's less tiering, much less polluting then a scooter or a motorcycle, and no permit is required. Obviously, you mustn't be in too much of a hurry. (name of reporters unintelligible)

Journalist:
His motorcycle has not moved in a month, from now on Mathieu (family name unintelligible) moves around on an electric bike. Everyday he drops off his kids at the babysitter, then heads for the office. By pedaling, he triggers the electric assistance. the motor, located in the front wheel, pulls his bike, the electricity is stored in the battery, mounted in a handlebar bag.

Mathieu:
It's the freedom of bikes, no insurance and the helmet, well I'm gonna have to wear one but, well, not yet. I ride in bus lanes, don't burn gas, no insurance, the budget asides from purchase is reduced to nothing.

Other cyclist:
That's a funny system you got there.

Mathieu:
Yeah, it's an electric assist, bla blah...

Journalist:
A system designed and sold in a paris shop. Olivier B. installs these systems onto classic bikes. Hardly a month ago, he was selling them over the internet, he decided to open his shop, obligated by success.

Olivier:
After a month, you know, word of mouth works pretty well and there were a lot of people who stopped by and I sold a lot of kits.

Journalist:
Other option, the ready-made electric bike. Costs 700 to 2700 euros, the prices are steep but the sales are taking off, a progression of 50% in 12 months, the European leader predicts a nice future for the French market.

Hugo:
France is perhaps the market, asides from Holland of course, the most important market in Europe for the future, for the next 10 years.

Journalist:
6000 bikes sold last year, it stays 10X less then in the Netherlands, but the market for these economical and ecological bikes should explode with the arrival of spring.
